giant steps rule

In most countries, school buses are the most preferred mode of transportation for students. And every country has its own rule and regulation for school transportation security. But there are some principles and standards that every country follows to maintain safety and security in school buses. Mostly security administration suggests that school buses must have a different design from the other transport or passenger vehicles.

Compartmentalization is also recommended by the administrations for large buses, so students can be protected from crashes. And small buses should have shoulder belts or lap belts for all seats. Technology can also be used to increase the security of school buses. And school bus routing software is one of the best options. It can help bus contractors as well as schools to optimize the routes, ...
... track vehicles, students, and manage drivers.

Moreover, GPS trackers can also be used, so parents and school administration can track the exact location of the bus in case of delay. Cameras can also be installed to solve any mishappenings. Along with these security hacks, here are some rules that students, staff, and drivers must follow.

 The 10 Giant Steps Rule

Students must be familiar with the 10 giant steps rule. Teach students how they can identify the danger zone. The 3 meters area around the bus is a danger zone that approximately equals 10 giant steps. So, students should be aware of this rule and must follow it especially, if they are crossing the bus from the front.

For safety, students must not enter the danger zone unless they are asked to do so by the driver. Remember, never play around the bus or come in the danger zone.

Only Authorized Drivers Can Enter the School Premises

School bus drivers must have certification and specialized training of 20 to 40 hours. This training is followed by a written test and road test. The purpose of this practice is to ensure security and safety as it a very demanding job. Moreover, the driving records of the drivers must also be viewed and medical examinations should be conducted on regular basis. Moreover, school transportation authority should re-evaluate their employees and make them aware of the board requirements.

Getting on the Bus Rules

Students should try to be at the stop 5 minutes before the bus arrival. Never run towards the bus if you are late. And wait at your stop away from the road in a safe place. Remember the danger zone and never stand in that. Get on the bus only when it stops completely and wait for the flashing red lights or stop alarm to come for.

Leaving the Bus Rules

There are some important rules for leaving the school bus safely. Students should be asked to remain seated until the stop reach and bus stop. While leaving, use the handrail and move away from the bus by taking large steps. After leaving the bus follow the 10 giant rule to cross the road or only when the driver gives the signal. If more students are leaving the bus then students at the front leave first. Do not rush. Inform an adult or the bus driver if you want to pick something that you dropped near the bus.

Riding the Bus Rules

While riding the bus, use seat belts if there are any and sit properly facing forward. Place your bags under your seat or put them on your lap. Don’t put your head, arms, or hands outside the bus either it’s moving or not. Never throw objects outside or inside the bus. Don’t make a noise because the driver needs full concentration to drive safely. Avoid fighting and shouting in the school bus. Moreover, the school transportation authority must conduct some practices for bus evacuation and students should participate in that.
