Diabetes occurs when your blood sugar levels fluctuate irregularly. Lack of insulin triggers diabetes because it regulates the movement of blood glucose or sugar into cells. If the sugar doesn't reach the cells, your body fails to produce the required energy to carry out its bodily functions. Due to the constant insufficient supply of insulin, your blood sugar levels fluctuate resulting in diabetes. There are 3 types of diabetes.
• Type 1 diabetes
• Type 2 diabetes
• Gestational diabetes

While the main reason for diabetes is irregular blood sugar levels, there's a little difference in the actual trigger of both types of diabetes. If your blood sugar levels drop below or rise above 126 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dl) after fasting for 8 hours, you are at risk to have diabetes. In type 2 diabetes, the body becomes resistant to insulin, in other words, it is unable to produce enough insulin. While the exact type 2 diabetes causes still remain unknown, medical experts say that genetics and environmental ...
... factors, such as being overweight and inactive-ness can put you at risk of type 2 diabetes. But how do you know you're at risk? Are there any signs to look for? We've put down a few symptoms to help you detect diabetes signs early.

Irregular blood sugar levels don't appear overnight, rather it builds gradually. While symptoms in some individuals can be detected early, in other cases it takes time.

The common type 2 diabetes symptoms include:
• Increased hunger
• Weight loss
• Frequent urination and increased thirst
• Infections and sores
• Fatigue
• Blurred vision

Diabetes can open the door to many other health problems as well. Please, consult a doctor and keep your glucose levels in check to manage diabetes effectively.

Type 2 diabetes symptoms can differ from person to person. For instance, adults and children can show different types of symptoms. Children and teens who suffer from the following conditions are at greater risk of type 2 diabetes.
• Excess weight
• No physical activity
• High blood pressure
• Family history of type 2 diabetes

The symptoms in children and teen also differ, these may include:
• Weight loss, despite increased appetite and hunger
• Extreme thirst and dry mouth
• Frequent urination
• Fatigue
• Slow healing of cuts or wounds
• Numbness or tingling in hands and feet
• Itchy skin

If your child experiences any of these symptoms, please consult a doctor immediately. Managing your blood sugar levels is important to avoid any other serious health conditions as it can open the door to other health complications such as Hypoglycemia and Hyperglycemia.

Diabetes detection & management:
Various tests can be suggested by your doctor to determine type 2 diabetes. The fasting plasma glucose test (FPG) is the most preferred method by doctors for diabetes. In this test, you're asked to fast for at least 8 hours so your blood sugar levels can be measured. Normal fasting blood glucose is less than 100 milligrams per deciliter or mg/dL if it's greater accompanied by the type 2 diabetes symptoms mentioned above, there's a very high risk you may get diabetes.

The best way to deal with diabetes is through blood sugar management. It can be achieved with some healthy lifestyle and dietary choices. These include:
• Healthy diet
• Regular physical activity
• Avoiding drinking or smoking

Please consult your doctor before undertaking any lifestyle or dietary changes. Adhere to the suggested medication plan and stick to it for a flexible diabetes lifestyle. If you experience any type 2 diabetes symptoms, please consult a doctor and work out a favorable plan for effective diabetes management.
