April is the peak of the second largest tourist season of Nepal. The moderate weather, colorful Spring and the splendid view of the Himalayas after the winter snow deposition, make the month popular among the visitors. The blossoms of Rhododendron, Indian coral, Magnolia, orchids and other wild flowers bring nature to the most resplendent at this time of the year. The spring flowers burst into life, continuously throughout April at higher altitude. Days are sunny and warm and the rain is still scarce. There may be occasional light showers especially in the Annapurna region. The middle hills have moderate temperature with cool nights. The southern tropical jungle and wetland is active with wildlife for the breeding season. The migratory birds coming across the Himalayas are still seen in April making the month best for bird watchers and bird photographers. The winter persists till mid April in the higher altitude. Weather changes towards the end of April as the monsoon clouds start to gather. Be careful of the strong wind with thunderstorms in the evening.

Weather

Weather varies drastically within Nepal from tropical ...
... plains to the trans-Himalayan region. However, April is the best time to do most of the tourist activities in Nepal. The average temperature fluctuates   from 18 – 33 degree centigrade in the jungles of southern planes. Presence of the migrant birds makes the month best for bird watching tours as well. The middle hills are still cool with temperature ranging from 10 – 29 degree centigrade. Kathmandu, Pokhara, Bandipur and Tansen are in the middle hills. Temperature in most of the trekking destinations remains moderate ranging from 12C to little below zero. The minimum temperature may go down to – 10 at the altitude of 4,000 m – 5,000 m.

Light rain is normal in April with hail storms or thunderstorms. Normally it rains in the late afternoon.

Events in April

Nepalese New Year falls in the month of April. Bisket Jatra festival is the most colorful festival that occurs in April. The festival is celebrated in the medieval town of Bhaktapur as the spring festival. The male and female aspect of the god are pulled around the city and finally rammed across each other symbolizing mating and creation.

Nepal trips for April

April is best for most of the trekking and tours of Nepal. The popular trails of Everest and Annapurna remain crowded during the month. April of 2021 is the best to do any popular treks like Everest base camp and Annapurna base camp as there are fewer trekkers. However if you are planning the trek after Covid 19 pandemic, avoid the main trails of Annapurna and Everest.

Upper Mustang Trek

Mustang is the last bastion of medieval Tibet that was closed for outsiders until the 1990es. Forbidden and isolated by the daunting landscape, the region prospered into its own Himalayan culture and Tibetan Buddhist practices even after Tibet was tormented by the Sino-Tibetan war. Even though Mustang can be accessed by dirt road, it is still pristine to trek.

Three passes trek in Everest

The three passes trek in Everest mostly escapes the crowded route to Everest base camp and bestows one with the best views of the eastern Himalayas. This is a more adventurous trek that explores the unspoiled dwellings of Sherpa and traverses to the Gokyo valley and Everest base camp.

Nepal walking tour

With the modest temperature, April is the best time to explore the middle hills of Nepal. The Nepal walking tour offers gentle walking with comfortable stay. Stay in the luxury hotels at the popular hill stations like Nagarkot, Dhulikhel, Bandipur, Dhampus and go on a gentle customized walk to fit you.

All Nepal Tour

The jungle of Terai and the charming village towns of middle hills are well connected by road network. If walking is not your thing, drive and fly around the popular hill station towns, Lumbini the birthplace of Buddha and finally cruise through the jungle roved by one horned Rhinos and the Tigers. The itinerary could be customized from 8 days to 12 days.
