Your mouth is the window to your overall health. It is essential in chewing food to make digestion easier. This does not end here, however. Your teeth will help you speak fluently, pronounce sounds properly, maintain your face shape and, most importantly, create a good-looking smile. There are several ways for you to take care of your oral health, even when you are just at home. Here are a few tips on how to properly take care of your teeth.

1.Maintain a good oral health care routine. Brush your teeth with a soft-bristled toothbrush twice daily for two minutes each time. When brushing your teeth, spend equal amounts of time in every quadrant of your mouth, cleaning the back and front of your teeth. Gently brush your teeth in a circular motion. Electric toothbrushes are good options because they usually come with built-in timers. For manual toothbrushes, use your smartphone or keep a small timer in your bathroom.

2.Replace your toothbrush regularly. Lots of people forget to replace their toothbrushes. It is best to ...
... use a new toothbrush at least every three months, and after you are sick. If you find that your toothbrush has started to worn out, immediately get it replaced. A worn toothbrush will not clean your teeth effectively, and will only increase your risk for dental problems like decay.

3.Floss every day. Flossing will remove built up food particles and plaque on the teeth. Particles that stay on the teeth will increase in number throughout the night. Flossing once during nighttime is fine for many people, but those prone to tartar buildup and gum disease should floss twice a day.

4.Use mouthwash. Otherwise known as oral rinses, mouthwashes are liquid products used to rinse the mouth, teeth and gums. It usually has an antiseptic to kill harmful bacteria living on your tongue and in between teeth. Rinsing with a mouthwash twice daily can help reduce plaque, assist in reducing cavities and freshen breath and freshen breath. It can also help keep your gums safe from gingivitis.

5.Stay hydrated. Drinking lots of water every day can help you stay healthy. Generally, healthy adults are recommended to drink 1.5 liters of water a day. Water is an essential component in the saliva that fights bacteria. It also helps wash away bacteria and excess food particles, and neutralize acid that causes tooth decay. Water also keeps soft tissues in the mouth and healthy.

6.Beware of teeth grinding. Teeth grinding can lead to anger, stress, and anxiety. Many people grind their teeth during sleep without even knowing that they are doing it. If you experience worn tooth enamel, torn cheek tissue, and increased tooth sensitivity, you might be grinding your teeth in your sleep. Dentists cannot stop you from teeth grinding, but they can make special mouthguards to wear at night so you do not wear your teeth down.

7.Check your diet and lifestyle. Frequently snacking on sweet food and drinks can cause acid attacks on the tooth enamel. Sugary foods that are chewy and sticky take longer to be cleared from mouth, increasing your risk of tooth decay. It helps to drink lots of water after consuming sugary foods, and brush the teeth if possible. Try to reduce your snacking to keep cavities at bay.

Following the tips above can be of great help in ensuring that your teeth stay healthy and beautiful. If you have any questions on oral hygiene, it is best to consult your dentist. Make sure that you visit them regularly to get your teeth professionally cleaned and to get an overall checkup to check for possible arising problems.
