Hajj is the fifth main pillar of Islam and is considered compulsory for Muslims keeping five points in mind. A person who does fulfill the criteria of these five points is not eligible for Hajj. Muslims become flabbergasted after hearing about the reward of Hajj and tend to perform Hajj or mini pilgrimage (Umrah) by booking cheap Umrah packages from London without wasting their time. Criteria for both Hajj and Umrah is same. Here five points that make Hajj compulsory for Muslims are discussed with detail.

1. A person must be a Muslim:

The first and foremost point that makes Hajj compulsory for a person is the he should be a Muslim because Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter in the sacred cities like Makkah and Madinah. Hajj is the fifth pillar of Islam and only that person has a right to perform it who accepts Islam. Without entering in the circles of Islam a person cannot perform Hajj. Muslims visit all the places of great importance in Islam and strengthen their faith with the help of this visit.

2. Hajj becomes compulsory ...
... at the age of puberty:

Hajj becomes compulsory at the age of puberty and is not compulsory before it. A child can perform Hajj with his parents but it will not be compulsory for him. It will provide reward to all those who perform Hajj before the age of puberty but will not be compulsory for them to perform. But when a person reaches the age of puberty, Hajj becomes compulsory for him.

3. A person must not be slave:

Hajj is compulsory only for a free and independent Muslim. It is not compulsory for slaves because they are unable to afford its expenses. Allah is merciful and does not put a burden on anybody more than his tolerance. Slaves do not have their own lives and therefore, Hajj is not compulsory for them.

4. A person should be mentally able:

Compulsion means not performing Hajj results in punishment on the Day of Judgment. As mentally disable people are not able to understand anything and are unable to perform Hajj, it is not compulsory for them. All the worships are for those people who have better understanding are spending life in a normal way.

5. A person should be able to afford expenses of Hajj:

The fifth point that makes Hajj compulsory for Muslims is that a person should be able to afford the expenses of Hajj journey. Islam is the religion that takes care of the needs and livings of Muslims. It has not made Hajj compulsory for those who are living from hand to mouth. Those people should perform Hajj who have a good amount of income and can also support their family while performing Hajj. Hajj is compulsory one time in life for those who are able to afford its expenses.

Discussed above are the points that make Hajj compulsory for Muslims. Person missing one of these five things is unable to perform Hajj. These five points are thought to be the criteria for Hajj.
