Moisture

During germination, moisture helps the seeds by softening the pods from which they sprout. Pre-soaking the seeds in water before planting in compost can help speed up the germination process. Attempt to keep the soil moist to the touch but not wet. A little water mister is best to use instead of pouring water straight into the seed tray.

Heat

Like all seeds, chilli seeds in Australia are reasonably easy to germinate. Initially, their main requirement is heated. Obviously, it's best if possible to stay the seeds indoors, if not during a house or garage then at a minimum during a greenhouse. Even once they are during a centrally heated house there are belongings you can do to maximize the warmth. Try putting the seed tray in warm spots like on top of the fridge or in a cupboard. Alternatively, you'll buy a heating pad from a garden centre and place the tray on top. this may ensure a continuing warmth is supplied to the chillies.

Thinning Out

The seeds should sprout after anything ...
... from a couple of days to a couple of weeks. you ought to attempt to leave the seedlings within the seed tray until they need to sprout their first true set of leaves. It’s an honest idea at this point to throw away any weak looking plants and only pot on the strongest plants. This in fact depends on what proportion of space you've got available to grow chilli plants in Australia, just remember they take up tons more room once they're adult plants!

Planting

You can plant the seeds straight into individual pots however a seed tray will allow you to plant more during a confined space. Fill the tray 3/4 filled with fine compost (sieved if possible). Then add the seeds in straight lines leaving about 5cm between seeds. Make certain to label the seeds if quite one variety is being grown. Place a canopy over the tray and place it somewhere warm.

Gently Does It

Young chilli plants in Australia are very tender. They hate being disturbed so be very careful to handle the roots as little as possible. Also, don't expose young plants to varying temperatures.
