How Do I Establish An Effective Study Routine?

Today, everybody is familiar with the concept of online learning. There are several online platforms for students, where individuals can choose how they study. But, one thing that people still struggle with is creating an effective study routine. Since online education isn’t as structured as classroom learning, it requires some extra care. If you’re finding it hard to stick to your study routine, we’re here to help. Here’s a look at how you can establish a good study rhythm:

1. List Your Priorities
As an online student, you might opt to complete multiple modules or courses simultaneously. Deadlines could overlap, leaving you struggling to catch up. Before starting your work, it’s best to prioritize your tasks. Every time you get a new assignment, place it in your list of priorities based on urgency and value. To understand the importance of each activity, you could ask yourself a few questions like:
a)Will this count towards my final grade?
b)Will it help me understand the content better?
c)How long will I need to finish the task?
d)Can I fit it into the schedule without compromising ...
... on other tasks?
The answers to these questions will help you create your priority list and focus your energy. For activities that count towards your overall course result, give yourself a little extra time.

2. Get Organised
Once you have listed out your tasks, you can organize your time. Most online platforms for students come equipped with an online calendar. You need to use yours to the best of your ability. If one isn’t available on your platform, you can use your phone or laptop calendar instead. As soon as you receive a new deadline, add it to your calendar. Colour code your timelines based on their importance. Once you know when everything is due, you can work backward and figure out when to start each assignment. Along with your calendar, you should use daily and weekly to-do lists. They will help you keep track of your short-term tasks and keep you motivated.

3. Make Time for Yourself
Online education can be challenging. Learners often spend hours on end completing their modules and assignments. But, you must take care of yourself to avoid burning out. Make sure you give yourself time to exercise, eat well and sleep. Ideally, try and get at least seven hours of sleep every night. Learning online can mean sitting at a desk for several hours every day. If you find that you have a sedate lifestyle, try and move around more. Remember, exercise releases endorphins in your body, which boosts positive feelings. Give yourself time to relax with a hobby. Read a good book, watch some TV or create art. These small steps will help you focus on your studies in the long run.

Along with a good study routine, you must also find an online learning platform that supports your goals. Make sure you do your research before picking your course. After all, learning isn’t a one-way street!
