Once you have installed WordPress, the very next thing you need to do is to install a plugin. In simple English, plugins are like apps on your smartphones that offer plenty of additional features to make your phone more user-friendly.

That’s why most businesses get in touch with WordPress development companies like Wppals to design and maintain their shopping cart, slideshow, contact form, call-to-action, and more.

There are hundreds and thousands of free and premium plugins readily available on the WordPress platform. In this blog, we will share some of the basic tips in installing WordPress free and premium plugins

for your website. But we will not be covering the FTP manager method.

Before We Get Started

The very first thing you need to understand is the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.

There are limitations on installing plugins on WordPress.com, and you have to buy a business plan in order to install a plugin.
While on WordPress.org, you can easily install plugins, whether it’s free or premium.

How To Install ...
... A WordPress Free Plugin

For starters, you need to login to the WordPress platform and click on “Plugins” right below the “Appearance.” Then click “Add New” and search for plugins on the top-right corner of the screen. There you will able to find the only free plugins. Once you have found the plugin you want to install, then click on “Install Now,” which will change into the “Activate” button.

Now you can install a WordPress plugin, but it will only work when you click on the “Activate” button. So, click on the button to get it started.

How To Install A Premium WordPress Plugin

There are premium plugins, but they are available on the WordPress plugin directory. Therefore, you cannot install these plugins using the method mentioned above.

So, you need to use the upload method to install these premium plugins. We will show you how it’s done as well using the upload method.

First of all, you have to download the premium plugin from the zip file. The next thing you need to is to click on the Admin Area and click on “Plugins” and “Add New Page.”

There, you will find the “Choose file” option, which you need to click on and upload the zip file. Then click on the “Install Now” button.

Now, WordPress will begin the upload and install the plugin. After installation, you will see the completion message on your screen.
Finally, all you need to do is click on the “Activate Plugin” to initiate the plugin.
Moreover, you also need to set up the plugins as needed for your project.

Conclusion

These are two are the fastest way to install a plugin on your website. However, there are sometimes, you cannot install WordPress plugins from either of these methods. This is mainly because WordPress hosting providers have some limitations in installing the plugin.

In that case, you don’t have any option but to install the plugin manually using the FTP method. But FTP method isn’t as easy as previous methods of installing plugins.
That’s the last resort to installing a plugin for your website.
