Who was Mahatma Gandhi?
Mahon das Karamchand Gandhi popularly known as Mahatma Gandhi was one of the greatest freedom fighters and a lawyer by profession who was born on 2 October 1986 in Porbandar, Gujarat. His wife's name was Kasturba Gandhi. He had a great role in the freedom fight with British colonel ruling over India. They returned to India on request of Gopal Krishna Gokhale from South Africa in 1915. His working structure was violent free. He has also founded a party named as Natal Indian Congress to fight with the discrimination prevailing in South Africa with Indians as they were also a victim for the same. Moreover, he had also run a movement called Dandi march, also known as Salt March from 12 March 1930 to 6 April 1930 against Unnecessary tax levied on the people by British rulers for using Salt made by Sea. Date 2 October 1986 remarkable in the pages of History. It is one of the Prestigious days for all the Indians as the great devotee of our country named "Mahatma Gandhi" was born on this day. This day is to be celebrated by the whole nation by remembering the great freedom fighter. Moreover, the "Gandhi Ghat" situated in Delhi is to be decorated on this auspicious day, and personalities like Prime Minister, President and many others used to come over there and celebrate it by praying, delivering flowers and bouquet on their Amar Jyoti.
Movements run by them.
1.Champaran satyagraha (1917)
The condition of small and poor farmers was getting the worst in Champaran, a district in Bihar. As Landlords were discriminating and asking farmers to grow Indigo on 3/20th part of their land and sell it on a lower price. But due to weather and climatic conditions, the condition was getting the worst. So, to rebuild the farmers Gandhiji started strikes, a lockout against Britishers and finally, a committee was made, and Gandhiji was one of the members of it. Moreover, the condition of farmers was also being uplifted.
2.Khilafat movement. (1919)
Ali brothers initiated the movement to fight against unfairness done with Turkey. Gandhi guided them all under the movement, and a conference was held in Delhi to rebuild the status of Turkey which had vanished after world war I.
Moreover, He was elected for the post of President, and the success of this movement was a tremendous and drastic change in their life as now their status was like a national leader.
3.Non-cooperation movement. (1920)
After the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Mahatma Gandhi decided to launch this movement. With the collaboration of the Indian congress party, they decided to influence people to boycott the British schools, colleges and products made by them. They introduced the concept of "Swaraj", which means using products made in your country. Mahatma Gandhi was successful in doing this. People started boycotting British products. But due to the Chauri Chaura incident, Mahatma Gandhi decided to stop this movement.
4. Quit India Movement. (1942)
This movement was started on 8 August 1942 with a motive to kick Britishers out of India. Mahatma Gandhi conveyed a speech with a slogan of "Do or Die" which heated the forehead of Britishers, and they prisoned all the officials of the National congress party in jail. But still, everyone was against them and asking them to leave the country. Still, after the world war, II Britishers get ready to leave India and release many of Indian officials from prison which results at the end of the movement.
