What You Need To Know About The Latest Baby Food Manufacturers Congressional Investigation

Parents across the country are astounded by the latest baby food report. According to a new congressional investigation, leading baby food companies have knowingly sold baby food that contained high levels of toxic metals. The toxic metals include arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury.
What Are the Harmful Side Effects?
These toxic metals are naturally occurring elements. They are found in the soil of crops and ultimately cannot be avoided. The issue is that some regions contain more toxic levels than others due to pollution and overuse of pesticides. Unfortunately, these heavy metals can be found in both organic and conventional foods. Choosing organic options helps to eliminate exposure to as many pesticides, but sadly the food supply is all subject to metal exposure.
Arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury are included in the World Health Organization’s list of the top 10 chemicals of concern for infants and children. These metals have been linked to cancer, chronic disease, and neurotoxic effects that can affect a child’s IQ, cause developmental and behavioral problems and impact organ function. From conception ...
... through 2 years of age, babies have a particularly high sensitivity to neurotoxic chemicals. These effects from toxic metal exposure can have a lifelong impact.
What Should You Do?
The biggest piece of advice is to offer your child a variety of foods. The top tip is to reduce your child’s intake of juice and rice (including snack items made from rice). Try to offer foods that are the least processed – think fresh fruits and veggies, yogurt, cheese, freshly cooked meats and poultry, etc.
Does this mean you should never offer your child a packaged snack or baby food from a jar? No. It just means to offer other options as well. The more variety, the better.
