Allergies aren't something to be considered as trivial. They always strike unannounced and give out symptoms like a skin rash or a sudden bout of sneezing etc. Cure for allergies doesn't exist but with proper care, you can manage them. Note down your allergy symptoms, how frequently do they occur and what do you think triggers it. Inform your doctor about these occurrences so they can determine more precisely what type of allergy troubles you. So, let’s take a look at how many types of allergens exist and how can you prevent them. Allergy testing helps you determine the type of allergy. Although you can take certain measures for allergy prevention, one has to be mindful about certain substances that trigger allergy signs & symptoms. Primally, there are three types of allergens, this includes:

Inhaled allergens- A person could develop an allergy to mold if the spores released are inhaled. Other spores include pollen, dust, dander etc.
Ingested allergens- Allergens present in certain foods that can cause an allergy such as, peanuts, soy, seafood.
Contact allergens- These ...
... trigger a reaction once they come in contact with your skin.

If you do experience any of the allergy symptoms, please consult a doctor immediately. Your doctor might suggest the tests mentioned below depending on your severity and trigger. Allergy testing can be conducted via;
• Skin prick testing
• Blood tests
• Patch tests
• Elimination diet
• Supervised challenge test

Each test consists of certain steps and requires medical supervision. Do not try to do these tests on your own & avoid any complications. Now coming to the question- can allergies be prevented? Yes, you can take certain steps for allergy prevention. Identifying and avoiding any contact with allergy triggers is the most efficient way of allergy prevention. But it's not 100% possible, hence you need to take the following steps.

Dust allergy prevention:
Dust mites are very common triggers of indoor allergies. You can control them by using the following strategies:
• Say NO to carpets and say YES to wood or hard vinyl floorings.
• Regular washing and vacuuming of cushions, soft toys, curtains, beddings and sofas lessen the risk of allergies.
• Wear a mask while you're dusting to keep away the dust mites.

Pet allergy prevention:
A lot of people might not know this, but the flakes from your pet's dead skin, saliva and dried urine can cause allergies. Also, limit their access around the house and avoid letting them in your bedroom to lessen the risk.

Mold allergy prevention:
Allergy to mold could develop if you have unattended damp places around the house. From your kitchen, bathroom to even gardens, make sure you keep them clean, dry and ventilated.

Food allergy prevention:
Food allergies are much easier to avoid if you know the allergy trigger food. Check the label for the list of ingredients and avoid consuming food that can trigger your allergy distress.

Pollen allergy prevention:
Pollen allergies are caused due to pollen spores. People have a misconception of flowers being the reason for pollen allergies but it's the trees and grasses that cause them. Restricting yourself to indoors during high pollen count season might help a lot. Also, avoid any gardening work. If it's important to step out, please make sure you wear a mask.

Make sure you consult a doctor if you develop an allergy to mold or other mentioned triggers to work out a proper allergy management plan. Stick to it and undertake the allergy prevention steps mentioned above to lower the risk of getting infected.
