Sleeping and boredom in the classroom is very common especially among young students, the reason being the type of content written in the textbooks which is not very interesting and also the plain old conventional teaching methods that add to the boredom.

The students need to be engaged in the classrooms in order for them to learn anything, because the pupils will only pay attention in class if they find it to be interesting and meaningful.

If you want to learn more about keeping your students engaged in class then you have come to the right place.

Strategies that help in keeping the students engaged in class

Creative classrooms

Creativity and imagination go hand in hand; the most fun strategy for both the learner and the teacher is to have creative classrooms.

Activities such as storytelling, debates, puppet shows, team building and brainstorming sessions keep the pupils engaged for longer.

Give the students options on learning materials

Allowing the students to pick their own topic to research and write about makes them feel more curious as they will always choose the ...
... topic they like; the teacher can always guide the pupils whenever they are stuck.

Give them freedom in presentation

The use of multimedia such as video and audio in classrooms, adds a new dimension of creativity in studying.

When scholars use these technologies to present their knowledge like they really want to they feel more confident, satisfied and encouraged, thus keeping them engaged in class.

Make students thinkable

A typical class is the one where the students cram, but it is not an ideal class, the more the students think, the more they will be engaged.

They can be given real life case studies which are challenging to solve, the learners can create working prototypes that functionally solve the problem.

Moral science and English literature are must

Not only do these subjects give the students a break from the other stressful subjects. These subjects are the most interesting and encourage discussions in class with their interesting stories and excerpts.

Moral science is a subject that should be practically taught as well, this subject is removed from the syllabus of senior students, but it must be included in their curriculum too as they need it the most.

Use multiple right choices

This point is basically related to positive thinking, instead of punishing the students for making mistakes, they should be encouraged because they have removed a nonworking solution.

Peer mentoring and school advisories can be offered

The way to support optimistic social engagement and to create a welcoming environment for students with different backgrounds and abilities is to provide peer mentoring and school advisories.

The climate must be positive

To create an enjoyable and comfortable learning environment for all, it is necessary for it to be positive.

Many students have personal and school related problems that they cannot share with anyone or are afraid to share with anyone, problems such as bullying often happen in school and children hide it even from their parents just to be brave, but such problems can lead to emotional crisis such as depression.

The teachers must discuss such issues in parent teacher meetings and try to stamp them out as much as possible to create a happy learning classroom and help the pupil concentrate better in studies rather than their own problems.

Conduct regular physical activities

Even adults become dull and get bored when they sit at one place for hours, so it is common for students to have the same results, if they are also just sitting like ducks all the time.

Educators must give the pupils short breaks in between classes to allow them to move about and P.T sessions must be conducted to keep them fresh and active, remember that active students are attentive students.
