Otherwise, it will contaminate your other foods.
It would be great if you can bring a cooler with you to store fish and to keep it at a safe temperature. Maintenance of quality of fish needs lower than 40°F. So, it is preferable to use a cooler to store fish while traveling home.

Fisherman’s Catch Seafood Handling

If you catch fish daily, you may find it difficult to handle. In warm weather, fish handling is a challenging task. While fishing, try to keep the caught fish alive for as long as you can or until you are done with fishing. When you are done keep the fish in a clean place for storage. If you can’t keep the fish alive try to keep it below 40°F. You can use a cooler with ice to keep fish safe.
While cleaning, make sure you don’t contaminate the meat. But if the meat does contaminate while removing the intestine and stomach, immediately wash it with cold water.

Storing Seafood Safely

There are different ways to store seafood. Some of them are short term while some are useful for long term storage. A refrigerator can store fish for only 3 days maximum. But if your fish was exposed to an unsafe temperature at the market for long, you shouldn’t store it in the refrigerator. Moreover, the type of packaging will also determine either you can store it in the refrigerator or not.
If you know that you are not going to use it in a day or two then store it in the freezer. You can store it for months in the freezer.
