Who needs donor eggs ?
Patient with advanced maternal age , or the ones who have less eggs , or bad oocyte quality or women who are trying to conceive post menopause. Also women with multiple failed cycles or repeated missed abortions opt for donor oocytes.
What is donor egg?
Human reproduction consists of 3 main constituents, they are the sperm (comes from the male partner), the egg (oocyte which comes from the female partner) and the uterus which is the house for the embryo for 9 months. Even If egg is unable to make an embryo or the number of eggs is less or there is no egg in a patient, they can conceive using donor eggs. This means eggs are taken form a donor, injected with the husband’s sperm and the embryo formed is inseminated in the mother’s uterus. Once the pregnancy is confirmed, it is just like a natural pregnancy.

Which patients opt for donor eggs?

How much time does it take for a donor egg cycle?
Donor egg cycles generally takes about 1 month form start to finish. The oocytes , sperms and the endometrium are prepared simultaneously in the 1st 15 days of the treatment and then the embryo formed is inseminated in the uterus and 14 days of medication is given to the embryo for supporting the intra uterine growth, After 14 days a Bhcg blood test is done for the conformation of pregnancy.
How is a Donor Selected?
Donors are generally selected based of a few generic criteria that come from the clinic which is all the blood records and medical records are checked , the family history of the donor is checked and the skin , hair and eye colour is matched , the height and body structure is matched to the couple. A lot of times couples option for Donor egg come with special requests for the type of donors they want these are generally a specific religion or specific level of education or matching blood group these requests are then fulfilled by the clinic.
