Mens Fashion - 8 Key Trends For Summer
Anyone shopping on the high street this season will have noticed a distinctly nautical theme running throughout the summer collections. From classic navy, white and red striped sweaters, tshirts and shorts, through to anchor symbols and rope prints too, this is by far the biggest look on the high street for 2010.
If you are looking for the perfect footwear for summer, look for this seasons must-have boat or deck shoe. This vintage-inspired classic is great for incorporating both the nautical and the travel themes that are so big this year. Another summer essential is the espadrille - a comfortable summery classic in a variety of canvas colours with straw soles.
Eyewear this summer is still all about the wayfarer. A classic shape made popular in the 60s, this vintage staple is great for all face shapes. As well as the classic all-black frames and lenses, look out for vibrant colour finishes to brighten up your summer wardrobe. Half-frames are big news too, continuing on from the geek chic look of last year.
The music scenes of the 1980s and 1990s have inspired much of the seasons menswear - from runge, to ...
... ska, to mod. This means that shirts are tartan or check and can be worn extra loose and unbuttoned over vests and tees, or for a crisp clean look, tuck into fitted shorts and button right up to the neck.
We have all seen enough of the skinny jean and 2010 sees a whole new shape take hold - the carrot shape. An odd name, but it perfectly sums up the shape - neatly fitted to the waist and then tapering down to an ultra slim fit at the bottom hems. From jeans to smart tailored trousers, this look is easy to wear and is great for showing off your summer footwear.
With summer approaching its time to bare those legs. The most stylish way this season is with the slim fit short that falls just above the knee. Short shorts are big news if you feel brave enough to flaunt them, and key fabrics include faded denim, particularly in black, as well as nautical navy and travel-themed pastels and beige.
Shade yourself from the summer sun with one of this seasons hats. The cowboy hat is still around, particularly in a straw finish, or to incorporate the summer travel trend, look for panama hats and fedoras with a black ribbon band.
Perhaps one of the biggest trends for summer 2010 is the vintage-inspired travel theme. Looking to the fashions of the Grand Tour elite of the 20s, 30s and 40s, good tailoring is key. Vintage s-belts as well as boaters and deck shoes will see you through this trend, which you will find in haute couture, designer and high street outlets like New Looks mens clothes selections. Barton Loi is a freelance writer with 15 years experience in the fashion industry. They recommend New Look for cheap and stylish mens clothes.
