The University of the West England, a public university offering more than 500 undergraduate and postgraduate courses, seeks to triple the number of Indian and Nepalese international students on campus by establishing a new dedicated recruitment office in the region.

Eighty-three percent of the university’s population are domestic students, but the remaining 17 percent are a mix of foreign students from South East Asia, China, Africa and the Americas.

Now UWE Bristol aims to bring its learning culture to India and Nepal and reach more students by partnering with M Square Media (MSM), which will help establish its in-country presence and operate a dedicated team for focused recruitment and assistance in managing its agent relationships and critical admission processes.

“We are looking for balance in quality and quantity in our student recruitment. We want people to come and say they had the best experience studying at the university and the UK, and talk to their family and friends in India about it,” said Ray Priest, Professor and International Director for the Asia Pacific at UWE ...
... Bristol.

In February, the UWE Bristol delegation led by Prof. Priest and Sophie Turnbull, Head of International Office, gathered postsecondary education agents at agent networking summits held in Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai and Kochi in India, as well as in Kathmandu in Nepal. Each event drew 80 to 100 agents working directly with students to help attain their study-abroad goals.

The university’s new initiative in South Asia is timed well with the UK post-study work visa, which will allow international students to stay in the country for up to two years after graduation in order to find work. The new visa rule will take effect for all foreign students starting their studies in autumn 2020 or later.

UWE Bristol highlights its track record of excellence in research, independent learning, soft skill development and innovation. The institution maintains a reputation for high employability among its international students, where the degrees are designed with work-related elements such as work placement programmes.

UWE Bristol ranks 11th in the UK for student satisfaction and Top 30 in the Guardian University Guide 2020, and is TEF Gold rated for Teaching Excellence.

“We are excited to replicate MSM’s success with Canadian colleges and universities to this part of the world, and bridge the gap between highly qualified Indian students and UK institutions,” said Sanjay Laul, CEO and Founder of MSM.

For UWE Bristol, the goal is not just to increase their enrolment numbers but to spread a culture of learning across geographical borders.

“The world is a very small place and everything is globally connected. Defeating ignorance by learning together and sharing cultures – you can’t put a value on that,” said Prof. Priest.
