Amongst the law firms that I speak to, most are searching for effective ways to reach new clients and grow their presence in their community. I recently came across this article that outlines why law firms should produce a podcast, which is something I agree is relevant to the changing climate we are all now doing business in.

Starting a podcast may seem ridiculous to attorneys, but as the article states, The American Lawyer reports that General Counsel across the country list podcasts as a preferred medium of content consumption. Having a podcast for your law firm will enhance your ability to reach General Counsel at the firms you’d like to work with.

Not only do I recommend starting a podcast, but the time to do it is now. With the pandemic in 2020 changing the landscape for everyone, 2021 is projected to be the biggest year yet for content creation and consumption. With the largest number of people ever working from home, consumers are gravitating towards podcasts as a break from the short, attention-grabbing media that clutters the internet and the tired webinars and zoom meetings they can’t escape.

Consumers ...
... want more substantive content, and it shows. From 2019 to 2020, both the number of Americans who listen to podcasts and the number familiar with podcasts went up by 5 points. With the kind of the year 2021 will be, the number of Americans yearning for a more lasting connection with brands through media continues to expand.

Fortunately, law firms are no exception. While the legal industry may be consistently misconstrued as antiquated, there is no reason your firm can’t change with the times. You can be an early adopter of the medium instead of a follower, or worse.

Here are 6 reasons why it would be useful for you and your firm to start a podcast:

1. Establish yourself as an expert in your field and attain more credibility.
2. Build brand trust and loyalty for your firm by being seen as “helpful.”
3. Attract clients and garner referrals.
4. Become a thought-leader by discussing recent legal trends and developments.
5. Develop a network of strategic relationships through guest interviews.
6. Create opportunities for expert interviews with local media.

There has never been a better time for businesses, large and small, to start a podcast. For your law firm to continue to grow in 2021 and beyond, a podcast is a step in the right direction.
