It's time for a good old fashioned road trip! Your drive is made even easier and actually fun if you take an RV. Your family can spend hundreds of days road tripping around the country exploring national parks, historical landmarks, quirky roadside attractions, funky urban destinations, and relaxing seaside towns. When you choose to travel this way, you are saving money because you won't need to stop at restaurants or hotels. Clearly, there are many reasons why people choose to plan RV road trips more than any other type of travel.

One of the great things about the United States of America is that it is located right in between two great travel destinations, Mexico and Canada. You can get into your RV and drive to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, or head in the other direction and see mountains, lakes, wildlife, and exquisite Canadian scenery. Mexico has great food, pretty beaches, fun nightlife and a lot of local flavor. Canada offers you the serene time away from it all you've been needing these past few months.

Before you leave for your grand roadtrip, you'll want to do a bit of planning. Part ...
... of this preparation means finding out if your RV insurance agency in Texas will cover you when you cross the border. Liability insurance is required by Mexican law for all motorized vehicles, including your RV. If you do not have proof of your liability insurance policy when you cross the border into their country, Mexican officials will make you purchase a policy on the spot before you may continue your travels further.

This doesn't completely answer the question though, because you actually may not have liability insurance in Mexico. Some policies only cover you within 25 miles of the Mexican border and only for a certain amount of days. You'll want to reach out to your RV insurance agency in Texas before you leave to know for sure how far you can go and what your coverage is. If you're planning on traveling further than your coverage allows, they can help you set up a temporary coverage. There are companies that specialize in temporary coverage for U.S. travelers. In other words, you can get the coverage you want to explore Mexico as far and as long as you desire. Hopefully, this won't be necessary and your current plan covers the whole trip. A simple phone call will tell you for sure.

Canada is a different story. Whether you travel in your RV or everyday car, you’re covered in Canada just as you are in the U.S. It’s the one foreign country where your insurance policy remains in force without restriction. Technically the same is true for any U.S. territory, like Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, but you probably won't be driving your RV to an island!

With this knowledge, go ahead and plan your extended road trip across the border.
