Stainless steel grade 301 may be a commonly available austenitic stainless with good corrosion resistance and elevated carbon to permit for cold working to a spread of tempers. It may be obtained within the 1/4 hard, 1/2 hard, and full hard. Type 301 stainless-steel includes a minimum enduringness of 185,000 PSI and 140,000 PSI yield strength.
Stainless steel grade 301 is sometimes supplied within the variety of strips and wires, with a durability of up to 1800 Mpa, to supply tempers starting from 1/16 Hard to Full Hard.
This form of grade 301 could also be employed in aircraft, rail car components, and architectural structures. Tempers of this grade, starting from ¾ to completely hard, could also be utilized in applications requiring high wear resistance and spring features with simple form designs.
Grade 301L, which is that the low carbon variety of grade 301, is that the ideal choice for applications that need good ductility. Grade 301LN is another variant. This contains the next percentage of nitrogen and exhibits a better work-harden rate compared to standard 301.

• 301 Grades corrosion resistance

 Resists outdoor, industrial, marine, and mild chemical environments
Similar to the resistance of stainless-steel grade 304.
 Good resistance in applications involving external exposure to mildly corrosive conditions at ambient temperatures.
 Susceptible to carbide precipitation during welding, which restricts its use in some applications.

• Heat Resistance
 Maximum exposure temperature is about 1450°F (788°C), for intermittent exposure
 Can be exposed continuously without appreciable scaling to a max of 1600°F (871°C).
 Has an oxidation weight gain of 10mg/cm 2 in 1,000 hours, in temperatures over 1600°F (871°C).

• Heat treatment
 Solution Treatment (Annealing) – Heat to 1010-1120°C and funky rapidly.
 Use the low side of the range for intermediate annealing.
 This grade can't be hardened by thermal treatment.
