With the coronavirus pandemic still ongoing, gyms and other exercise places are closed. Health protocols call for stay-at-home orders. But, running is still one of the most convenient exercises you can do on your own. Running outdoors carries minimal risk from the coronavirus, though experts point out health precautions and measures still need to be taken for runners to protect themselves and others.

Use the 6 feet physical distance safety measure
Staying 6 feet away from others, especially others who are exercising, also needs other factors to be considered. This includes wind direction and heavy breathing from others that can influence how far respiratory droplets disperse. So, if you see another runner or biker approaching, give them a wide berth. This is the best protection you can give yourself and others.

Wear face-covering even if it’s uncomfortable
Public health officials recommend that people wear cloth face coverings or face shields when you’re exercising outdoors. If you find facemasks too uncomfortable, you can find substitutes such as bandanas, fabric buffs, or special ...
... face shields that cover the front of the face but leave enough room to huff and puff.

Avoid running in groups
Run solo for extra protection. If your family also wants to run, do it in pairs. Avoid busy streets and paths during busy times of the day. Do not stop to talk to other people you see on your run. But, ideally, you need to run alone as a safety precaution. However, you also need to be street smart. Don’t run in high-risk areas or areas that are too isolated. If you want to feel safe, run only in pairs and with a member of the household.
