Chromebooks are innovative laptops that run on Chrome OS, a highly developed operating system by Google. Chromebooks are typically faster and unique in terms of features when compared with standard laptops. As they run on a different operating system, some users find it hard to connect their Chromebook to an external screen. In this article, we are going to illustrate some ways to connect a monitor to your Chromebook. There are a few ways to connect your Chromebook to your TV or any external monitor. Connecting to a monitor will provide you with more screen real estate, and you will be able to perform more tasks efficiently. There are dozens of other benefits of connecting an additional display to your Chromebook, such as you will be able to enjoy movies and TV shows on a bigger display. Whatever you would see on your laptop will appear on your large TV.

You can connect your Chromebook to your monitor wirelessly or with wire. The wired connections are typically more reliable but less convenient, while wireless connections are sometimes unstable but are more convenient.

Let’s discuss how to link your Chromebook ...
... to a monitor.

Methods to Join a Monitor to a Chromebook Laptop

Using HDMI

The first way to connect your Chromebook to a monitor is to use the HDMI output port on your laptop. The majority of the Chromebooks come with a dedicated HDMI port to connect an external display. Here is what you need to do to connect your Chromebook to an external display:

First of all, find the HDMI port on your laptop. Most probably, it would be on the left side and next to the USB ports.
Once you locate the HDMI port on your laptop, please get an appropriate HDMI cable and plug it into your laptop’s HDMI port.
Now plug the other end of the HDMI cable into your monitor.
Turn on your monitor and see if it automatically detects the HDMI output.
If your Chromebook appears on your monitor, then you have done a good job.
In case you cannot see the screen of your Chromebook on your external display, then check if the source is selected as HDMI on your monitor.
If your connectivity is right and you have selected the right source on your monitor, you should connect a monitor to your Chromebook without any issue.
Using USB-C

Your Chromebook probably has a USB-C port on it, and you can use it to connect to any additional display. All you have to do is, get a USB-C to HDMI converter or adaptor. You can easily get one such USB-C to HDMI adapter on Amazon or other online shopping sites. You will also need an HDMI cable for this.

First of all, please find the USB-C port on your laptop and then connect the USB-C to HDMI adaptor to your laptop’s USB-C port. After that, connect the HDMI cable to the adaptor’s HDMI port.

Now you can insert the HDMI cable into your monitor’s HDMI port.

Turn on your monitor and Chromebook and see if you can see the Chromebook’s display on your monitor. Make sure to select the source as HDMI on your monitor.

Using Chromecast- Connect Chromebook to a Monitor Wirelessly

If you wish to get rid of wires and wish to wirelessly connect your Chromebook to a TV or monitor, this method is for you. You will need a Chromecast and a monitor to which you will connect the Chromecast.

Please obey the instruction given here to make this happen:

First of all, make sure the Chromecast is connected to your monitor.
Turn on your TV and Chromecast device.
Make sure you can see the Chromecast’s user interface on your monitor.
On your Chromebook, click on the Settings icon from the bottom right corner and in the taskbar. As shortcut Settings appear, click on the ‘Cast’ button to view all devices that are available for casting.
Select your Chromecast from the given list.
As you select the Chromecast, the Chromebook will be automatically linked to your monitor. You will be able to see everything that your Chromebook plays on the monitor.
