Vertical C-section Scar Removal
Giving birth should be one of the happiest occasions of a woman’s life; however, sometimes women must go through cesarean sections to deliver their babies. Cesarean sections (or c-sections) are major surgery, and as such, they can leave scars that make women self-conscious and reluctant to ever wear 2-piece swimwear again. Normally, c-sections today are done with a “bikini†cut horizontally over the pubic bone, so most swimwear can conceal it. However, some c-sections are done with a vertical cut, which can extend well above the pubic area. Fortunately, silicone scar treatments can help this issue with less risk and less financial obligation than older, more expensive, and more invasive methods of scar removal.
If you have a vertical incision from a c-section, InvisiScarâ„¢ might work for you. It is a medical-grade, clinically-proven silicone scar treatment that works to gradually reduce the appearance of a scar over time. Vertical c-section scars can extend up to just below the navel, so they might show if a woman is wearing a 2-piece swimsuit, low-rise pants, ...
... or a top that barely covers the tummy.
The sheets come in various sizes and can be cut to fit the specific scar. When choosing one, the best way to determine the size is to measure the area of the scar and make sure that the patch will cover about ¼ to ½ inch past each edge of the scar. The best size for a vertical incision is probably the 2x8 inch patch, since most vertical c-section scars are about 1/6 by 7 inches. If the scar’s length exceeds 7 inches, the 2x12 patch might be best, and it can be trimmed to cover as much area as necessary. While you are using the scar treatments, you may wear clothes over the silicone sheet so that the sheet can do its work throughout the day. The longer the sheet is worn, the more quickly the scar should disappear. At the beginning of these treatments, however, it is best to start at just a couple of hours of use per day, gradually building up the amount of time that the sheet is in place.
Although scar treatments are recommended for use as soon as possible once the scarring occurs, it’s important to know that it can take up to three months for a c-section scar to fully heal. The healing process can take even longer if infection occurs at the incision site, so it is vital to care for your c-section scar and ask your doctor if you have concerns. If you experience more pain or irritation than your doctor tells you to expect, get checked for infection so you can start a round of antibiotics immediately. Proper care of the vertical c-section incision during the healing process will speed up the time in which you can start scar treatments.
As a mother, giving birth should be the most joyous occasion of your life, but if you deliver via c-section, it might leave you with a scar that makes you feel self-conscious. If this is the case for you, consider the inexpensive, noninvasive solution of silicone scar treatments.
