How To Replace The Interior Halogen Lights In Your 2015 Gmc Canyon With Interior Led Bulbs

In this article we’re going to show you how to replace the stock halogen interior bulbs in your 2015 GMC Canyon with compatible interior LED bulb replacements from Diode Dynamic. Please note that you can perform a very similar replacement for GMC Canyons produced between the years of 2015-2019 following basically the same process.

First, you’ll need to ensure that you have the right replacement lights. Using Diode Dynamics’ Vehicle Finder Tool that you can find on their website, you can easily search through interior replacement bulbs according to their compatibility with a vehicle manufactured by year, make and model. In this example, we’ll be replacing the stock halogen lights on the GMC Canyon mentioned above with their 168/194 Interior Replacement Bulbs. These lights can be used to replace the map lights as well as the front and rear dome interior lights.

... all you’ll need are the replacement bulbs in question and a plastic trim removal tool to remove the covering over the stock lights. To get started, wedge the edge of the trim removal tool under the inside of the front of the plastic covering. Pry down and work along the edge until it has become loosened. Using your fingers, pull the plastic covering down to release the tabs along the backside, before pulling the covering and away from the assembly. Set it to the side so you can replace it later.
If the halogen bulbs were recently on, be careful before proceeding with removal so as to avoid burning yourself. If they were not recently on, you can pinch the bulb and pull it away from the socket; it should just slide right out. Set them to the side.
Take your Diode Dynamics 168/194 Interior Replacement Bulbs and replace them into the sockets from which you removed the halogen lights. They will fit into the same socket and will require no modification or wiring, as they are plug and play replacements.
After you have installed the replacement LED lights, you’ll want to test the function to ensure that they are working properly before you replace the plastic covered. Turn the lights on and off to see if they work.
Once you assure yourself of their operability, you can proceed with replacing the plastic covering. To reinstall it, reverse the process you followed for removing it. Place the back edge into the housing so that the rear tabs fit back into place before resetting the front edge.
You can also replace the map lights using the same basic process as detailed above; the map lights in a 2015 GMC Canyon will accept the same 168/194 Interior Replacement Bulbs as the rear dome lights. The only difference is that when removing the plastic covering you can insert the trim removal tool at the side or along the front. Then, follow the exact same procedure detailed above.
These replacement LED bulbs are designed to last for years, and represent a direct plug and play replacement for the yellowish factory incandescent or halogen light bulbs. They will not burn as hot and will improve your light output as well.
