If you don’t like your iPhone’s ringtone and looking for ways to create something different and pleasant, you are in the right place. The ringtones that come with iPhones get dull overtime for some users, and if you are one of them, we will help you create a new enjoyable ringtone for your iPhone.

Luckily, there are some ways to customize a ringtone on iPhones. You can use anything you want, including songs and sounds, to create your favorite ringtone. This post includes the ways to make ringtone using iTunes and Music. So read this post to get rid of old boring ringtones.

Update Apple Music or iTunes
Install updated versions of iTunes or Apple Music to make your desired ringtone. You have to use MacOS 14 High Sierra or older for iTunes and MacOS 15 Catalina or newer for Music. Launch the app on your Windows or Mac computers. If you have to use MacOS Catalina or newer, then update it through Apple Store. You will need to update the app’s version based on how older the song you want to make a ringtone. You might also need to free your favorite track from DRM or digital rights management to use ...
... as a ringtone.

Select a song
After choosing an app and updating it with the latest features, you have to select a song to make it a ringtone. Please note that select something sensational that surprises the listeners in a few seconds as the iPhone allows only 30 seconds or less to play a ringtone. So play the chosen song and extract the part you want to use as a ringtone.

Both iTunes and Music allow you to crop audio and visual content for a particular purpose. Here you have to trim the best part of the song for 30 seconds. So, to shorten the music, make a right-click on the song and select its info. On top of the window, you will find a tab option. You have to click on it. Here you get blank boxes to set start and stop time. Then hit the OK button.

The interface can vary on iTunes and Music, but the process will be the same.

Create an AAC version
You know Apple follows the AAC version as its audio format. This audio format delivers the same audio quality as the MP3 but requires less storage space than MP3. You can easily create an AAC version with both Music and iTunes. So after selecting the song’s extract with a 30-second duration, you need to convert it into an AAC format.

Once you create the AAC version, a copy of the song’s extract will start showing in the iTunes library under the original music. Before moving on to the next step, you have to revert the start and finish times into their real settings.

Copy the file and delete the old format

In this step, you have to save the AAC version on your preferred location. If you use iTunes, you won’t need to shorten the song. To delete the old version, choose the button Delete in MacOS High Sierra or older and select Keep File or Move to Trash in MacOS Catalina.

Change the extension to set the ringtone

AAC files utilizes .m4a file extension. In iTunes, the file name will show in the .m4r extension. Hence, you will need to change the extension name from .m4a to .m4r to make the song a ringtone. You can do it by clicking on the saved files.

Add a file to your iPhone

Now you have to add the file extension to your phone. So you have to connect your smartphone to your system through lightning to USB cable. Then locate the iPhone icon. Access the option Summary section and scroll further for more options. Now tick the check box and drag & drop the song file into the Tunes section, and your iPhone will automatically fetch the file.

In case you have MacOS Catalina and don’t have iTunes, click on Finder and choose the iPhone from the sidebar and follow the next options.

Set the ringtone

Now you are ready to set your favorite ringtone. Follow the ringtone settings on your phone and choose your created ringtone.

By following all these steps, you can make a ringtone for your iPhone through iTunes or Apple Music. You can read the full guide for detailed instructions.
