The stock market refers to the set of markets and exchanges in which the acquisition, sale and issue of shares of publicly traded companies takes place on a daily basis. Such financial activities shall be carried out through institutionalized formal exchanges or over-the-counter (OTC) markets operating under a specified set of regulations. Although both terms – the stock market and the stock exchange – are used interchangeably, the latter is usually a subset of the former.
