The Costs for International Shipping

Ocean freight forwarders offer helpful services for sending shipments to international locations. There are several factors which would affect the final cost that you would incur. The actual cost that would have to be incurred for the sea freight along with the costs that would be charged by the particular operator are the two main elements which would affect the price.

The Main Factors:

Given below is the list of a few factors which would determine the charges that the shipping company would charge for sending shipments to international locations:

* The actual freight is charged according to the standard tariff. Discounts can be negotiated if you are planning to send out freight regularly through the same shipping company.
* If you are planning to send across goods through charter vessels, the charges would depend on the demand for these vessels
* The rates that apply for the cargo category in which your goods fall
* The applicable congestion charges at the ports
* The Currency adjustment factor for changes in the exchange ...
... rates
* The bunker adjustment factor for the changes in the fuel price
* All the surcharges charged by the ports for the regulatory regimes

Another important factor which would affect the price of the shipping is whether you are sending a full container load or not. The tariffs are generally based on the rates of the container so it would be economical for you to send the full container. However, if you do not have a large quantity of goods to be sent, you would need to contact a company which provides a less than container service so that your goods would be consolidated with the others.

The Main Documents

Ocean freight forwarders would need a few documents for sending your goods to an international location. An Export Cargo Shipping Instruction is the first document that you will need. This document would give the shipping company instructions for your goods and the other related details. You will also need one of the following documents:

* For sending out hazardous goods you would need Dangerous Goods Note or a DGN
* For sending out non hazardous goods you will need a Standard Shipping Note.

You will also need one document from the list given below:

* The Bill of Lading. This document would be issued by the shipping company and would indicate the receipt of the cargo. This would act as a contract as well as the proof for the title of the goods.
* The Sea Waybill is quite like the BOL. However, the main difference is that this document would not confer the title and hence it is easier to use. It can be used when there is a mutual good relationship between the buyer and the seller or in case the goods are being sent to internal divisions of the company.

These were some of the main documents that you would need in order to send freight to international locations. Specific documents might be required depending on the situation.
