Engine is the heart of a machine and so it consists of various vital parts that are required for its operations. Engine is the driving force of every equipment/ machine/ vehicle. The internal system of the engine comprises various critical parts that have complicated mechanisms. All the internal parts of the engine play a role in smooth and correct operation of an engine.
A fault in a single component of an engine can be disastrous. It can completely damage your engine and working system. So it is vital to have some knowledge about internal parts of the engine and its functions.
The basic components of an engine are engine block, piston, valves, oil pan, crankshaft, camshaft, and various types of cylindrical parts like cylinder head, cylinder liner or cylinder sleeves, cylinder head gasket and so on.

Cylinder Head:
The upper part of an engine is called a cylinder head. In an internal combustion, the cylinder head is placed on the top of the Cylinder block. The main function of the Cylinder head is to control air inflow and outflow through cylinders. It has many other functions like..

2). Place for Operating Valve Mechanism
3). It works as cover for cylinder block
4). It serves as a place for spark plugs.
5). Main - regulation of air flow.

In order to support the above functions, it is made from a series of complex parts like valves, valve spring, valve lifter, spark plugs, intake exhaust manifold, injector, etc.

It is made up of detachable metal iron casting that fits into the top part of the cylinder block. It is used in 4 stroke engines and all automotive engines to set a valve to work it effectively.

Cylinder liner:

A cylinder liner is a cylinder shape part to be fitted into an engine block. It is one of the most vital and functional parts in making the interior of an engine. It is made up of thin-walled hard material that is wear and tear-free. The cylinder liner is a sleeve, where the piston of an engine reciprocates.
The liner has important functions in an engine because of its excellent properties.

1). It prevents higher oil consumption.
2). It protects the piston ring by less wear on it.
3). It has higher anti-galling properties.
4). It provides minimum wear on the cylinder liner itself.

Basically there are 3 types of Cylinder liners - dry, finned and hot. The purpose of each remains the same to protect the piston from impurities and heat but the method/way slightly differs. They are generally expensive and are primarily purchased from special engine parts stores.

Cylinder head gasket:

It is an important component, situated between the cylinder head and engine block. It is a small part of performing a great task. The function of the Cylinder head gasket is to seal the combustion gases within the cylinders to avoid engine oil leakage and coolant. Thus it gives durability to the engine.

It is designed with cylinder holes for hosting the pistons. The main purpose of the head gasket is to seal the cylinders to ensure optimum compression. The head gasket maintains required sealing and prevents oil leakage between the crucial parts of an engine. Cylinder head gasket is used in automobile industries in manufacturing car engines.
