Agrochemical Industry In India

The Indian economy is known to be based largely on agriculture. In fact, the agricultural sector employs about 50% of the Indian workforce, contributing 17% to the GDP of the country. Even though India suffered problems of food deficit in the past, the Green Revolution in the 1970s turned India into a food surplus economy. Currently, not only are the domestic needs covered, but the exports of agricultural goods have increased too. The agrochemical market in India is growing, driven by the rising population and growing demand for food.
Statistics Regarding The Indian Agricultural Sector
The increment in the agricultural production of the country has taken place not only in terms of volume but also variety.
India currently ranks 8th among the top agricultural exporters in the world, valued at around $35 billion.
India holds the 2nd position globally in terms of agricultural production. With 150 million hectares of cultivated area, the production is valued at around $367 billion.
While India’s population grew by a little over 100% from 1975 to 2014, the agricultural production of the country ...
... recorded a 1400% growth.
India records domestic pesticide consumption worth $2.77 billion and pesticide exports worth $2.31 billion. Several Indian brands manufacture pesticides with world-class formulations.
Next to the USA, Japan, and China, India holds the 4th rank in terms of pesticide production globally.
The Agrochemical Segments
Agricultural production in India has been greatly boosted through the use of crop protection chemicals. These chemicals not only protect the crops but also increase the overall productivity. About 53% of the domestic market of crop protection chemicals consists of insecticides, followed by herbicides, fungicides at the rest. Currently, herbicides boast of the fastest-growing market. Most of the crop protection chemicals are used in the production of cotton and rice.
Although the agrochemical industry has certainly grown quite well, there is still potential for further growth. While the global consumption of pesticides is 3 kg/ha on average, that in India is 0.65 gm/ha. Currently, the agricultural sector in the country suffers heavy losses due to diseases and pests. It shows the need for further use of pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and other chemicals during production, storage, and transport.
The main reason for the growth of the agrochemical industry is the increasing demand for food. With per capita available arable land decreasing, the need for increased crop productivity per unit of land is on the rise. The government too is encouraging the application of decontrolled fertilizers and helping the agrochemical industry grow through new policies.
Export Prospects For The Agrochemical Industry
Even though India has sophisticated technical and formulation research capabilities for pesticide production capabilities, they are under-utilized. Further investment in the sector would greatly improve export potentials. With the US-China trade war going on, India would be able to become a major source for agrochemicals globally.
Usage Of Industrial Fans In Agro-Chemical Industry
Industrial centrifugal fans are one of the key equipment in the agro-chemicals manufacturing process. The main equipment used in the agro-chemical industries are reactors, main storage tank, storage vessels, day tanks, pumps, heat exchangers, distillation columns, driers and cooling towers. Industrial centrifugal fans are used for performing a variety of functions in the chemical processing plants including helping in the combustion process, to convey the raw materials to the reactors and pollution control equipments. Industrial process fans not only provide ambient conditions for people to work in the factory by reducing the heat and humidity levels but also help to create a healthy atmosphere as they send fresh air, remove pollutants, air contaminants, smoke, and reduce offensive odors.
Reitz India manufacturer of PA fan has gained a trusted name in the fan industry for their exclusive production standards and merchandise quality. Reitz India primary air fan supply significant static pressure air which is ideal for balancing the pressure drops in the boiler applications of various power plant industries.
