You would be glad to know that the villain of the upcoming tentpole “Wonder Woman 1984” took some inspiration from the Ghost Rider actor Nicolas Cage.

Pedro Pascal, who is playing the villainous character named Maxwell Lord in the upcoming DCEU film “Wonder Woman 1984”, has revealed in a recent interview that his portrayal has been inspired by the actor Nicolas Cage.

The upcoming DCEU film distributed by Warner Bros. takes the story of the first movie forward by 66 years as we meet the protagonist character Diana Prince aka Wonder Woman (played by Gal Gadot) once again. She now works at Smithsonian Museum situated in Washington, DC, along with the character named Barbara Ann Minerva (played by Kristen Wiig).

We still do not know about the story, such as the comeback of Diana Prince’s love interest Steve Trevor (played by Chris Pine). He had died in the first movie. Remember?

Furthermore, the trailer showed us that Barbara eventually becomes the villain character Cheetah and we do not know its cause either. All in all, we are all excited about the movies, which is bursting with talent. ...
... Of course, one of the talented actors involved with the cast is none other than Pedro Pascal, who plays the character Maxwell Lord in the movie.

Some have suggested that Patty Jenkins’s version of the Maxwell Lord is inspired by Gordon Gekko (the beloved villain of the 1987 film “Wall Street) and Tony Robbins (who is a motivational speaker turned businessman). However, Pedro Pascal drew inspiration from the actor Nicholas Cage which becomes evident from one of his quotes from his interview with Entertainment Weekly.

He suggested that while the lead actresses Gal Gadot and Kristen Wiig would be busy in jam-packed action, he would be doing the necessary “schm-acting!”

It is unclear which part of his role has been inspired by Nicolas Cage. Still, some have suggested that Pascal would probably enact a scene similar to one of Cage’s early performances, which came in the form of the character Peter Loew from the 1989 film “Vampire’s Kiss.”

And it is highly likely that Maxwell Lord was written keeping Nicolas Cage’s character in mind because facets like greed and self-proud are similar in the two characters (i.e., Maxwell Lord and Peter Loew).

In the interview, Pedro Pascal did not go into detail about Nicolas Cage’s influence on him and instead gave us a feeling that he wants his performance to be seen as a tribute rather than a challenge.

The story for the film has been written by Jenkins herself in the company of David Callaham and Geoff Johns.

The early reviews about the film are already out, and they have been largely positive, with many praising Pedro Pascal for his brilliant portrayal of Maxwell Lord.

In case you didn’t know, Pedro Pascal has already proven that he has a lot of talent with his performances in the HBO series Game of Thrones (Oberyn Martell) and Netflix series Narcos (Javier Pena). He currently plays the leading role in the Disney+ series The Mandalorian (season 2 finale will air soon).

Wonder Woman 1984 arrives in theaters and on HBO Max on December the 25th.
