Smoking is the most common drug addiction around the world. The demographics of the smokers’ state that people belonging from all economic backgrounds i.e. lower, middle, and upper class, are addicted to smoking. It is estimated that about 6.5 trillion cigarettes are sold around the world every year. There are almost 1 billion current smokers in the world, which is beyond belief and worrying as well.
Many people commit to leaving the smoking addiction but they easily give up. Given the statistics, one can at least try to minimize consumption. It can all begin with cutting off one cigarette each day in the first week and cutting off two every day in the second week. Within a month one can bring a significant change in his smoking habit. To quit smoking requires great intuitional courage and mental strength. It is not as easy as pie. You cannot simply go cold turkey without persistence and perseverance. To quit smoking requires planning and preparation.
Step 1: Identify The Reason Why You Smoke.
Try to trace down the situations, conditions, and moments when you desperately seek smoking. Try to understand how you became addicted to cigarettes. Also, understand the reasons that compel you to smoke.
Step 2: Seek Help From A Closed One.
Ask your loved ones, your best friend, spouse, or parents to help you in quitting the habit. They will not only remind you that you have committed to quit but will become your moral support. Take a break. Go on a vacation or spend quality time with your loved ones. The time that you will spend with them will never let you go towards the cigarette.
Step 3: Throw Out Your Cigarettes And Everything Related To It.
Pick your cigarette packs, ashtrays, and lighters and throw them away. It should not just be limited to just throwing them. Most people think they should quit smoking and they begin by throwing away the cigarettes. But it must never be the first step. One must be backed with great instinct and moral courage.
Step 4: Do It, Do It Again:
Make all the possible efforts to quit smoking. It will become difficult on the first day, even in the first week or two. But persistence and perseverance have rewards. Keep trying and you will definitely make it.
It is understood that leaving up an extreme addiction is difficult, but it is not impossible. Cigarettes have nicotine, which is a highly addictive substance. This makes you go crazy to have more and more. But if you commit, nothing can stop you.
Once you quit smoking you will realize how physically fit, mentally fresh you feel. Also, this will make you productive. It is on you whether you choose to risk your life on your own or choose a healthy lifestyle for yourself and for your family.
