Even if winter is coming, getting sick again and again is a sign. A sign that your body’s guards are somewhat not able to ward off illnesses and viruses. The signs can be many but the reason is one, low immunity. The cures can be many, like medicines, dietary changes, or even an ayurvedic kadha but it all ends up at your own decisions. There are several lifestyle and dietary changes you can inculcate in your daily life to strengthen the natural defenses of your body. There have been many studies, but it is proved everywhere that good immunity is a process and culmination of many changes. If you keep being patient and step-by-step try to improve your lifestyle, then you will develop a strong defense against diseases causing organisms and harmful pathogens.

Stay hydrated
Hydration is not a prime factor in protection from viruses and germs, but being hydrated is important to our overall health. Dehydration is responsible for giving bad headaches and hinders our mood, focus, physical performance, heart, digestion and kidney function. All these problems can result in bigger issues in the longer run.

Manage ...
... stress
Controlling your anxiety and stress are key factors in keeping a healthy immune system. Long term stress is responsible for inflammation and imbalance in our immune cell function. In children especially, prolonged psychological stress suppresses the immune system. Activities like yoga, exercise, meditation, mindfulness can be helpful in managing stress.

Limit sugar
Several pieces of research suggest that refined carbs and added sugars contribute to obesity, and obesity increases your risk of getting sick. Controlling your intake of processed sugar can aid in weight loss and decrease inflammation, which in the long run reduces your risk of having chronic health conditions such as heart diseases and diabetes. A simple daily practice of reducing sugar and replacing it with herbal tea or kadha can be helpful in developing a better immune system.

Exercise regularly
Moderate exercise can be helpful in boosting the immune system and prolonged exercise can suppress it. Some examples of moderate exercise are swimming, jogging, brisk walking and light hiking. Studies have shown that moderate exercise reduces inflammation and helps in the regeneration of immune cells.

Get enough sleep
Sleep and immunity have a close relation. You will have a higher susceptibility to sickness if you get inadequate sleep. Getting the proper amount of rest strengthens natural immunity. It is generally advised to sleep more while being sick so that our body’s immune system can fight the illness. Typically, adults should get at least 7 hours of sleep every night and the number is higher in teens and children. Limiting screen time is usually suggested because the blue light from screens like TV, mobile and computers can disrupt our cardiac rhythm.

Supplement
There are some supplements that can strengthen the general immune response of our body. Garlic proved to have reduced the chances of the common cold by 30% and the main ingredient in our household kada for cold, is one such supplement. Apart from that, Zinc, Vitamin C, Vitamin D affect the duration of cold, decrease the chances of getting sick and even reduce the symptoms of respiratory infections.
