How To Use Stacks, Gallery View, Quick Actions, And More On Finder Using Mac

If you’re a Mac user, you must be familiar with using the Finder app to access documents, files, and more. The Finder app allows you to use various tools for its customization. However, there’s a lot more than that.

Using Stacks in Finder
The ‘Stack’ tool, as the name suggests, is used to stack files in an organized manner. Thus, the steps to use the Stacks tool in Finder are:
Open your Mac’s desktop screen and click on the ‘View’ tab in the menu bar.
Note: Make sure that no background apps are running.
A drop-down menu will open. Click on the ‘Use Stacks’ option.
Right-click on any empty spot on your desktop.
Select the ‘Group Stacks By’ option from the pop-up menu.
Select any of the following options: Kind, Date Last Opened, Date Added, Date Modified, Date Created, or Tags.

Using Gallery View in Finder
For all those unfamiliar with the term ‘Gallery View,’ it allows you to scroll through files and locate the one you’re looking for. The steps to use Gallery View in Finder are:
Open a New Finder Window on your Mac.
Locate the folder or the section you want to view.
Locate the ‘Gallery View’ button on the right side of the view selection buttons and click on it.
Using Quick Actions in Finder
The Quick Actions tool enables you to instantly perform a task without launching the app. Thus, the steps to use the Quick Actions in Finder are:
Open a New Finder Window on your Mac.
Select the ‘View’ format you want to use.
Select the file for which you want to use the Quick Actions tool.
Tab on the ‘View’ tab in the menu bar at the top of the window if the Preview pane doesn’t appear.
Select the ‘Show Preview’ option from the drop-down menu.
Select any of the available actions at the bottom of the Preview pane to perform it on the selected files.
Click on the ‘More’ icon to expand more actions.
Viewing File Metadata in Finder
The steps to view the file metadata in Finder are:
Open a New Finder Window on your Mac.
Select the ‘View’ format you want to use.
Locate and select the file you want to use to view the information.
Select the ‘View’ tab in the menu bar and click on the ‘Show Preview’ option from the drop-down menu.
To view additional metadata, click on the ‘Show More’ option in the Preview pane.
Using Quick Look Tools in Finder
macOS Mojave introduced new Quick Look updates claimed to be very powerful compared to previous versions. The steps to use the Quick Look tools in Finder are:
Open a New Finder Window on your Mac.
Select the ‘View’ format you want to use.
Select the file you want to use with Quick Look.
Bring up the Quick Look window by pressing the space bar on your keyboard.
Tap the Action button depending upon the file.
Once you’re done using the Quick Look tool, tap the spacebar again.
