Elevators are heavy machinery that are integrated into the civil structure to transport people along a vertical direction. Since it involves regular movements of people, there must be certain regulations that the building and the product must comply with in order to ensure the safety of people and the structure in which it is placed. Unfortunately in India there are no safety standards for home elevators.

In India, to install an elevator in any commercial building or residence, a license to assemble and integrate it is required and another license to use the elevator is also required. The Bona-Fides of these licenses vary from state to state. Currently only ten states issue these licenses: Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Assam, West Bengal, Delhi, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh.

Several States in India do not have a defined Lift Act. As a result, there is often ambiguity pertaining to the legal aspects of installing lifts in a building” – Abhijit Dandekar, a panel member of the Elevator and Escalator Code Committee of Bureau of Indian Standards.

In India, there are some particular ...
... set of IS codes and regulations set. For home lifts, the Indian Standard regulation codes are IS 14665 and IS 15259. If it is a machine room less elevator then IS 15785, similarly IS 14671 if it is a hydraulic lift. These standards provide a rule book on the civil measurements alone. Despite of such regulations, India ranks 2nd highest in Elevator accidents in the World. So, Elevator companies, especially Home Elevator companies, should go through tough regulations and standard to provide the utmost safety. Unfortunately, as mentioned before, there are no proper safety standards for Home Elevators in India. This allows anyone to be a lift manufacturer and the authority to question them is absent owing to the absence of such standards.

This is where ThyssenKrupp home lifts stand out. ThyssenKrupp home lifts are designed in such a way that the entire elevator system can be assembled and integrated with trivial civil modifications and energy consumptions. ThyssenKrupp home lifts comply with European Safety standards of Machine Directive 2006/42/EC and EN 81-41 which requires very basic safety standards to be satisfied to be in the market and also it should be safe for people with physical challenges to use. ThyssenKrupp home lifts are certified by a third-party organization by the name of TUV. This is a non-profit organization that certifies companies (Industrial) on safety and energy efficiency. This certification indicates the lift has been tested under arduous situations for safety and energy efficiency during the manufacturing of the product and also post installation. Also, ThyssenKrupp Home Lifts are certified SIL-3 level safe. SIL certifications are provided for the safety concerns for the product and also the habitat that the product covers. For a perspective, SIL-4 is certified for Nuclear Power Plants and Bullet Trains. This makes ThyssenKrupp Home Lifts the only company in India that doesn’t require any local body licensing as it complies with European Standards of Safety and it in turn makes ThyssenKrupp Home Lifts the Safest Lifts in India.
