6 Ways To Conserve Water
Why Conserve Water?
Water is essential across all living organism. This not only keeps us and the animals and plants around us alive, but it also provides wildlife with specialist habitats.
Water conservation may save you money; the less water you use, the less your water company can charge you.
Water conservation saves electricity. To filter, heat and pump water in your home, energy is needed, so reducing your water consumption also reduces your carbon footprint.
Consider the following 6 ways to conserve water:
1. Toilets
Place an inch or two of sand or pebbles inside either of the two plastic bottles to cut down on water waste. Load the bottles with water, screw the lids on and place them firmly away from the working mechanisms in your toilet tank. Or, buy an affordable float booster or tank bank. This could save ten or more gallons a day of water. Make sure that at least three gallons of water were left in the tank to wash it properly. Users can keep the lever down too long or do several flushes to get rid of waste if there is not enough water to get a good flush. Two flushes are ...
... worse than a single 2 gallon wash, at 1.4 gallons.
2. Laundry
Use Clothes Washer for Only Full Loads & Consider a High Efficiency Washing Machine. Ignore the permanent press process, which uses an extra five gallons (20 liters) for extra rinse, for clothes washers. Adjust water levels for partial loads to match the load size.
3. Take Shorter Showers & Install Water-Saving Showerheads
Through making simple adjustments in your everyday life, you can help decrease the waste of this valuable resource. Around 5 gallons of water per minute is used for a typical shower. You will cut your water consumption by 10 gallons if you shorten your shower by 2 minutes. By shutting the water off when soaping, you can reduce the water intake further.
4. Turn off Faucets and Sinks
When shaving, brushing your teeth or washing your hands, don't let the water spill away. You will save up to 30 litres of water only by turning off the tap or install a hands free sensor taps as you brush your teeth in the morning and before bedtime! That adds up to a month of even more than 750 litres. It is reported that one uses about 40 liters of running water for shaving, it can be decreased to a few liters simply by closing the tap when shaving. Whenever a mug of water is reused to rinse the shaver, it may be further decreased.
5. Check for Leaks
Homeowners can save over 10 percent on their water bills by repairing quickly fixed household water leaks. Over a cooler month, such as January or February, take a look at your water use. There are serious leaks if a family of four crosses 12,000 gallons per month. Before and after a two-hour cycle where no water is being used, search the water meter. You potentially have a leak if the meter adjusts at all.
6. Car Washing
When you are cleaning a car, make sure to turn off the running water. Rinse vehicles with a hose equipped with an automatic nozzle of shut-off. Approximately 10 gallons a minute is used in a typical garden hose. This means that in only a 10-minute car wash, you use 100 gallons of water. If you use an automated shut-off nozzle on your hose, while you wash your engine, water does not spray constantly, saving as much as 70 gallons per wash. Another alternative is using a waterless car cleaning product, Waterless car wash products cleans your car without water. Just simply spray a fine mist onto a panel. This car cleaning product will extract dirt particles and encapsulates them into its liquid.
There is no need for a large cost outlay to conserve water at home. While there are more costly water-saving devices, products and water storage systems such as No-Wet, rain tanks, drip irrigation and on-demand water heaters, it is possible to perform the majority of water-saving measures at minimal cost.
NO-WET, ONE product will in ONE application clean, polish wax, seal, shine and UV protect surfaces. Eco-friendly, Easy to use, cost of product to clean your own vehicle only $2-$5.
