Going for MS Outlook and switching from Lotus Notes email client is a common decision for organizations now-a-days. Now while a user migrates from Lotus Notes to Outlook, he/she might come across some migration issues. Administrator can generate PFT in two different ways where at one hand; he/she can utilize the Generate Template option available with the Lotus Notes Application Connector or on the other hand, PFT can be created by running the Lotus Notes Application Conversion Assistant. Lotus Notes Application Connector produces PFTs which require no customization for simple Lotus Notes databases such as document library.

In case the database is customized, then the administrator has to run the Application Conversion Assistant first before actually migrating any data with Application Connector from Notes to PST. Also, administrator must use the Application Conversion Assistant's PFT, enable Application Connector to generate a template, select Edit Template, Delete the text and paste the entire contents of the Application Conversion Assistant's PFT into it, or copy the generate file by Application Conversion Assistant to the Application Connector program directory.

Application Conversion Assistant scrutinizes Notes database design and creates comparable forms in an Exchange Server public folder. Certain design elements do not translate between programs and so you need to review the generated Outlook forms and perform any design modifications as per user requirements. Run the Application Connector only when you are pleased with the form design. If the administrators add to makes alterations in any field in their Outlook forms, then he/she must reflect those changes in the PFT file by manually editing it and later check the same for any syntax errors.
