Increase Internet Security By Preventing A Keylogger Or Phishing Using A Symbol Based Password
PINoptic provides innovative password security though their patented Symbol based Password named Visual One Time Password technology. The Visual One Time Password (VOTP) approach uses the concept of symbols rather than words to Secure Data, protect access to networks, and web applications. The technique works because each time a user is prompted for their set of symbols to gain access; the symbols are in a different position on the keypad.
The PINoptic VOTP algorithms are implemented in such a way that some of the most damaging hack attacks - those that deposit "key-logging" malware that records key strokes and steal passwords - are thwarted. Since the keys that need to be typed to gain access change every time, even somebody watching a user key their entry "code" would be unable to gain access.
Ralph Harvey, Chief Technology Officer said "Our Visual One Time Password security protect not only against hardened internet criminals by thwarting key loggers, but can also be used by consumers in situations where privacy and Protecting Passwords may be an afterthought, for example, in ...
... a family environment scenario where you are keying in a password. It's not uncommon for children to be borrowing a phone or needing it unlocked for operation and parents having to shield the keypad in an attempt at Protecting Passwords as they type in the parent enters their pass code!"
Harvey believes that the company's innovation could play a major role in preventing brute force attacks adding "a typical mixed 8 character password can be brute forced in as many seconds using standard equipment and programs downloadable from web. PINoptic Symbol based Password software can thwart such attacks."
The company believes the technology has a role in both consumer and enterprise markets. According to PINoptic CEO Evan Livingston, the applications for PINoptic in business are extremely diverse. "In addition to the obvious benefits of protecting ATM users from Shoulder Surfers, the algorithm can be applied to CAPTCHA Authentication, Secure Data Storage, and general Web or System access protection."
The PINoptic Secured Storage consumer product which allows content such as files, documents and pictures on your PC or removable media to be completely secured from unauthorized access using the symbol based password technology is available as a free download at www.pinoptic.com/securestoragedownload.html
