More than 100 marine species along with deadly jellyfishes were recently spotted quite far from their typical habitats. This is because of the disruption of Australia’s ecosystem.
With the temperatures rising, more of the aquatic creatures like the reef fish are moving south. Some fishes are diving deep in the water to get away from the warm temperature and find a new home.
Since 1900, the temperature of the sea surface in Australia has increased by 1 degree centigrade per year. As a result of which, these coral reef fish are swimming towards the poles and oceans in search of cooler surfaces.
These mini killers are reported to be meandering down the coastline of Queensland because of the hotter temperature that threatens the Tourism industry’s fortune of the Gold Coast.
However, the migration is not as terrifying as the effect that the deadly jellyfish ‘Irukandji’ creates on the marine ecosystem. We should not worry about the meat-eating fish but we should worry about the vegetarian fishes that feed on algae and plants.
Dr. Alistair Hobday (CSIRO scientist) states about the migration of ...
... fishes. He says that he hopes that the corals will move to the south soon. The extreme weather events, marine heatwaves, and water temperatures have thumped the aquatic life and ecosystem. The coral reef fishes have moved southwards and it is about time we start paying attention to the climatic changes happening around us and find a way to stop these changes.
If you wish to have a glance at these reef fish, Anima marine life image bank is the perfect place. The shifting of these reef fish can probably affect the ecosystem. The photographers have done a brilliant job in capturing these images and you can buy these illustrated images to give your home a marine life feeling.
