Central Air Conditioning And Its Types
The central air conditioner circulates cold air through the supply and return duct system. Air supply ducts and vents (that is, openings in the wall, floor or ceiling covered by grilles) transport cold air from the air conditioner to the house. When cold air circulates through the house, it becomes warmer.
Then it flows back to the central air conditioner through the return duct and ventilator HVAC. To understand how central air conditioning compares with other refrigeration systems, check out our "Energy Saver 101 Infographic: Household Refrigeration".
Air conditioner repair helps to dehumidify incoming air, but in extremely humid climates or when the air conditioning is too large, it may not achieve low humidity.
Running dehumidifiers in air-conditioned homes increases the energy consumption of the dehumidifier itself, and because the air-conditioning will require more energy to cool the house. A better alternative is the dehumidification heat pipe, which can be added as an improvement to most existing systems.
If ...
... you have a central air supply system in your home, please set the fan to turn off at the same time as the compressor. This is usually done by setting the "auto" mode on the fan settings. In other words, do not use the central fan of the system to provide air circulation-use circulating fans in each room.
Types of central air conditioning
The central air conditioner can be a split system unit or a packaging unit.
In the split central air conditioner furnace, the outdoor metal cabinet contains the condenser and compressor, while the indoor cabinet contains the evaporator. In many split air conditioners, this indoor cabinet also contains an indoor part of a stove or heat pump. The evaporator coil of the air conditioner is installed in the cabinet or main supply pipeline of the furnace or heat pump. If your house already has a stove but no air conditioner, installing a split system is the most economical central air conditioner.
In a packaged central air conditioner, the evaporator, condenser and compressor are all located in a cabinet, usually on a concrete slab next to the roof or building foundation. This type of air conditioner is also used in small commercial buildings. The supply and return air ducts come from indoors, pass through the outer wall or roof of the house, and are connected to the complete air conditioner usually located outdoors. Packaged air conditioners usually include electric heating coils or natural gas stoves. This combination of air conditioning and central heater eliminates the need for a separate stove in the room.
Choose or upgrade central air conditioning
Central air conditioning is more effective than indoor air conditioning. In addition, they are not obstructive, quiet and easy to operate. To save energy and money, you should try to buy energy-efficient air conditioners and reduce the energy consumption of central air conditioners. In an ordinary air-conditioned household, the air conditioner consumes more than 2,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity each year, causing the power plant to emit about 3,500 pounds of carbon dioxide and 31 pounds of sulphur dioxide.
If you are considering adding central air conditioning to your home, the deciding factor may be the need for a duct systempioneer hvac supply.
If you are using an old central air conditioner, you can choose to replace the outdoor compressor with a modern and efficient unit. If you do, please consult your local heating and cooling contractor to ensure that the new compressor is properly matched to the indoor unit.
However, considering the latest changes in refrigerant and air conditioning design, it may be wiser to replace the entire system.
Today’s best air conditioners consume 30% to 50% less energy than those produced in the mid-1970s. Even if your air conditioner is only used for 10 years, you can replace the air conditioner with a newer, more efficient model, thereby saving 20% to 40% of the cooling energy cost.
