1) Keep the Bottle Clean

This may seem obvious, but the majority of leakages come down to the bottle not being kept clean.

When removing the pipette from the bottle, it can be easy to accidentally tap the outer side of the bottle. When this happens oil will eventually spread over the screw thread and prevent the bottle from closing properly.

2) Remove Trapped Air

Sometimes an air bubble can get caught inside the bottle which prevents it from closing properly. If this happens, try firmly twisting the bottle to close it, then holding it in place for ten seconds. This should hopefully force the air to escape through the seams of the pipette.

3) Hold the Pipette Correctly

If the pipette is held upside down, this can cause oil to run down the length of the pipette and spill onto the pipette thread, causing closure problems as mentioned in the first step. To prevent the simply ensure that you never hold the pipette upside down, or at any angle that can cause oil to run in the opposite direction.
