Gum Laser Depigmentation

What is gum depigmentation?
The darkness of gums is due to excessive melanin pigmentation. Lifestyle factors like tobacco smoking, increased exposure to sunlight, endocrine disorders, few oral mucosal conditions, drugs and metals tend to make gums darker. Black or brown color of your gums is removed through a gum treatment called as gum “depigmentation”. The superficial pigmented layer of gums is removed which in few days is naturally replaced by healthy pink gums.
How is LASER gum depigmentation beneficial?
A dental laser can target and ablate the melanocytes, thus reducing the production of melanin in the gingival tissue. So the chances of relapse are less with the use of lasers. Following laser depigmentation the gingiva results in a lighter and more uniform color of the gums. Among the various techniques used for gum depigmentation, lasers offer a promising therapeutic option as it is simple, painless and predictable.
