Sand Blasting Nozzles
Sandblasting nozzles are used to direct the flow of abrasive media. They are available in a wide range of varieties depending upon the applications. They have different sizes and chosen on the basis of customer requirements. The performance of the sandblasting machine depends on the type of nozzle used during blasting. Bore plays an important role in the blasting nozzles, enough pressure should be applied for the better blasting. One should choose a nozzle by keeping the size of the bore in mind, it should be neither too small nor too big.
Nozzle selection should be based on three factors:
The shape of the nozzle
Material of nozzle
Compressors also, play a major role in the selection of nozzle. The pressure produced in the nozzle depends on the volume of air compressed per minute in the compressor. More the volume of air compressed will result in higher pressure produced in the nozzle. High pressure will increase the velocity of abrasive media and deliver more kinetic energy which helps in improving the production rate.
The nozzle which has good air pressure must be selected for getting the proper ...
... blasting done. One should use long size on a large surface so that consistent blasting can be done and productivity can also be increased. So, for large surface blasting purposes, long venturi nozzles are used which can be used at high pressure for large air and grit outputs. Large venture nozzles are mostly preferred for bridge repainting and for all those large applications which cannot be performed by using small nozzles. On the other hand, medium and small size nozzles are used to fulfill smaller operations like surface preparation for further thermal spray coating.
Nozzles of different materials are used for different applications like, aluminum oxide which is also known as tungsten carbide or ceramic, made up of high-density metal. Other nozzles like boron sandblasting nozzles are used with very hard abrasive media. Roctec blasting nozzles are also used for blasting applications. They provide much resistance against abrasion but are very expensive. They are available in all sizes.
Most of the nozzles have a thread size of 1-1/4 inch. Although different thread sizes are available for different sandblasting applications.
