The human body is a self-healing mechanism that often takes care of its own wounds quite naturally. However, sometimes, after wounds heal, more unusual scars are formed because of an overproduction of collagen. These scars are referred to as hypertrophic scars. Much like a keloid scar, a hypertrophic scar is raised, but they do not push past the boundaries of the original damage.

Hypertrophic scars are quite common, and are not known for expanding to a larger size. They also have a tendency to fade over time, however, they can be rather unpleasant, and are often some of the first scars that people look to remove.

In removing hypertrophic scars it is important to bear in mind that with healthy natural skin care, they can be prevented before they need to be removed. However, when they get to be too obvious and obtrusive to be ignored, treatment choices can include surgery, silicone sheets, compression therapy or several options for injections.

Compression therapy consists of using elastic bandages to apply pressure on and around the scar. By applying pressure to the area around the scar, collagen fibers that ...
... surround it can be reduced through the use of these high-pressure bandages. Bandages made of spandex or Lycra provide the strongest pressure, and are therefore the most effective.

Silicone sheets are an effective method to remove the scar by providing flexible, soft material that can be cut to the size of the scar and applied to the skin. They last from several weeks to months, and are comfortable enough to wear for extended periods of time. The friction caused by the sheet rubbing up against the scar is part of how it reduces and eventually eliminates the scar from the skin. Scar removal sheets are also more affordable than most other alternative methods.

Injections have, for the most part, used corticosteroid to generate hypertrophic scar healing by reducing the production of collagen. Steroid injections may be used as well, which may be pairs with other kinds of processes to help remove the scar.

In using surgery to remove hypertrophic scars, one runs the risk of recreating scar tissue that would be caused by any cut prohibits the effectiveness of this method. However, utilizing multiple forms of healing after the surgery can be highly effective in creating positive outcomes. Often, compression is best suited to be paired with using surgery to remove the scar.

Alternative forms of removing hypertrophic scars include deep tissue massage. This should not, however be done on a scar that has not yet healed. Use of vitamin E can create a more pliable surface area, moisturizing the dry tissues making them more elastic, prohibiting the rescarring of the wound. Always make sure the scar is completely closed, however, before utilizing massage.

Because medical insurance does not generally cover the removal of scars, sometimes the use of professional but over-the-counter alternatives like silicone scar sheets are preferable. You can find a way to improve yourself without having to break the bank.
