It's different from -a pill with progestogen-only. Oestrogen and progestogen stop the development of eggs in the ovary, so in effect, the ovary stops releasing the eggs. So, the chances of eggs getting fertilized by spermatozoa are remote. It is known that the efficacy of these pills is quite high, as high as 92%. The efficacy reaches near 100% if the pills are taken by women without fail and consistently.

If you are on Progestin-only pills, which are also known as mini-pills, you can begin taking them any day or time. You will be protected only after 48 hours during which you're on the pill without a break. If you take progestin-only pills, you must have it at the same time every day. If you find there is a missed dose with an interruption in taking them, you should apply other birth control methods for the next 2 days. You should know what it means to take the pills continuously.
