A bespoke suit refers to a suit that is completely hand made and a bespoke tailor is the person who makes these suits. Unlike a machine made suit, a bespoke suit is completely hand sewn from precise measurements, which means that it is of exceptionally high quality and you can expect to get a perfect fit.

The process of creating a bespoke suit is a very lengthy one. Instead of using a premade pattern with ‘typical' measurements, a bespoke tailor not only takes your measurements, they also take a digital photograph so that they can get a feel for you as a client instead of just working with a list of numbers. When you are getting a bespoke suit made, you will find that it will often take a bespoke tailor a couple of weeks to cut, fit and sew the pieces into the finished garment.

When you purchase a premade suit, you pick from a number of different suits that are already sewn and put on display in the store. You may have limited choice in fabric, cut or accents and do not have any choice of customization. However, when a bespoke tailor is hired to create your custom suit, you can choose every aspect of the ...
... finished product from fabric to cut to accents and accessories. This means that although you may not get your bespoke suit as quickly, it is more than worth the wait.

When you purchase a ready-made suit off the rack, you will wear the suit while it is adjusted to fit you. There may be issues with a ready-made suit if you have a large discrepancy in some of your measurements. For example, if you have very narrow shoulders but arms which are quite long, you may find that a ready-made suit will never fit properly.

With a bespoke suit, this is never an issue. The bespoke tailor will create a custom pattern and will fit the suit more precisely during the basting stage, where the pieces have been temporarily stitched together but the final sewing has not yet begun. A bespoke tailor also has more experience in measuring and fitting men's apparel, which means that the same mistakes you can find in lower end men's apparel shops will not be an issue.

If you are having a suit crafted by a bespoke tailor, you can choose the fabric and the silhouette or shape of the suit as well. This means that if you prefer a double breasted suit or a specific number of buttons on your suit jacket you will be able to have one crafted for you.

If you can only own one finely made garment in your life, make it a bespoke suit. Anyone who knows anything about tailoring and men's apparel will see the fine hand stitching and recognize your bespoke suit for the high quality piece of clothing it is. When you consider that it takes over eighty hours of work to create a single bespoke suit and that these garments take meticulous attention to detail, you will understand why it is very rare to see one created by a top bespoke tailor.
