Amazon recently announced a new service enabling its users to watch movies and shows while chatting with up to 100 friends.

Binge on the latest show with your buddies on Amazon Prime Video Watch Party from your laptop or desktop. It does not require any plugin or download.  Amazon released the Watch Party feature for Prime subscribers in the US in June. Watch Party is accessible on nearly all desktop browsers, excluding Apple’s Safari.  For now, it doesn’t support smart TVs, game consoles, mobile phones, and tablets.

You Need to Have a Prime Membership or Prime Video Account

The minimum required to use the Watch Party feature is to have a Prime account. You can purchase a Prime Video account for $9 a month, or you can become a Prime member by buying the annual subscription for $119 annual Prime membership. Also, you have to be in the US to be able to use the service.

How to Start a Prime Video Watch Party

Once everyone is logged into their Prime accounts, here is how you can get the Watch Party started.

Step 1: Select the show or movie you want to watch from Amazon Prime’s full catalog. To add further to your excitement, this catalog includes about 200 Amazon Original Series. It covers The Man In The High Castle, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Good Omens, Fleabag, and Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and movies such as Manchester By the Sea, The Big Sick, Late Night and The Report.

You can choose from the B-movies catalog, just in case you are in the terrible yet fun to watch movie mode.

Step 2: After you have chosen a movie or TV show, tap the “Watch Party” icon below the title.

Step 3: A pop-up box will appear saying, Let’s Start a Watch Party. You can decide on a cool name to use while chatting in the box. Enter and hit Create Watch Party.

Step 4: A box will appear that says Invite Friends, including a personalized link to be shared.

Step 5: Once all your friends have entered the chat, hit Start to begin your Watch Party.

Now here is a catch, only the host gets to play, pause, and seek for the group, unlike the Netflix Party extension, where anyone in the group can control the screen.
