For experienced professionals, who have 5 years or more of working experience, condensing your accomplishments and merits into one single document can be a formidable task. Most professionals at this stage are ready to make a lateral move, getting more serious about their career, looking for new prospects in the same field, or even a career change!

All of these actions require you to prepare yourself mentally, as well as professionally. The first step lots of professionals avoid, but need to focus on, is to update your resume accordingly.
When you're ready for a job change, a polished and updated
resume is the one thing you can't skip!

For a lucky few, you may not have even had to interview repeatedly, landing positions and promotions through your network alone, or in the same company. But for most of us, the first step to change is to make a branding for the self which leaves an impact on the interviewer. Before the interview stage arrives, you have to first impress the recruiter handling your resume templates.
The best way to introduce yourself is a professional, impactful resume. You have ...
... many achievements and have undertaken several responsibilities in your various roles. Now is the time to present them in an orderly manner, so that the interviewer can understand your viability and select your resume templates from a bunch of other viable resumes. The aim is to stand out, show that you would be the right candidate for this job.
Ten steps to make your resume a powerful tool:
1. Highlight your credentials at the top
Make sure your credentials - especially the ones that match your target job are seen at the very top of your resume. Any busy recruiters is bound to glance at this, so placing them front and centre ensure they won't get missed.
2. Link to your online profile – such as LinkedIn – professional profile
To show your history of jobs you have been working at, a clear representation of the companies and responsibilities.
3. Core skills should be in the resume summary
All the skills the job requires that are applicable to you too, should be highlighted in the resume summary
4. Selected Achievements should be visible.
You key achievements must be highlighted in a way that’s easily visible.
5. Start with the most recent work experience.
Put the name of the current company, or the latest one first, then down to previous ones.
6. Quantify your achievements with figures
Try and put numbers to achievements – like increased retention by 13%, profits by 11% etc..
7. Do not exceed 2 pages
use the second page for experience, notes on academic certifications, volunteer work and interests,
8. Restrict to the past 15 years of experience.
if you held a hold 20 years ago, simply mention the position, there’s no need to add the company, unless it pertains to the job at hand.
9. Education section is at the end of the resume
Some experts maintain that there’s no need to add an education section if you have more than 15 years of experience, however, mention it briefly, but no need to add percentages.
10. Don’t specify dates from beyond 15 years

Describe each role’s responsibilities and achievements.
Under the job title of each position, include a short description that explains your responsibilities. This could include the type and size of the projects you managed, the clients you serviced, the accounts you represented, or the team you supervised. Under each of these descriptions, include a bulleted list of your most notable and relevant contributions and accomplishments. Quantify these accolades whenever possible.

Demonstrate your career progression.
Ideally your resume format should be listed in reverse-chronological order, starting with your current position. Dedicate more space and details to your recent work, assuming this is relevant to your job target. Your resume should tell the story of your career. If you stayed with one company for a number of years, use the role description and bullets to explain how you’ve taken on more responsibility over time.
