We have inherited a wealth of knowledge and ad-vice. A vast store of culture and history and tradition is available to us. ... it is our own "salt water content" that probably will have the greatest impact on the kind of life we lead. Salt water content is measured by the sweat and tears that we have accumulated."It is very dull to spend your life taking care of yourself all the time."Each of us is important to ourselves, and we should take the best care of ourselves. But, there are other people in our lives who also deserve our attention and our help. If we spend all our attention taking care of ourselves and neglect of others, kind deeds for others. Kindness is a hard thing to give away. It keeps coming back to the giver. It is like a boomerang. We often get back what we give. This is as true of love as it is for kindness. Giving love and getting love should be the same. Giving does not diminish us. It enhances us. We say that "a candle lights a candle". Many candles can be lighted from a single candle. When we light other torches, we give light and warmth without losing either for ourselves. The best way of taking care of ourselves may be to spend time taking care of others. The importance of a life can be measured by the impact it has on the lives of other people."What doesn't kill me makes meThis has been said by several western writers. To me, this means that we must accept pain arid adversity and learn from them. Harmful experiences must be used as good lessons. If we survive hospital stays, we should be wiser for the experience of having been in a hospital. If we survive an illness, we should use that experience to make us stronger. We often learn by burning our fingers. If we touch a hot stove it may be physically painful, but it should leach us not to touch any hot stoves a-gain. Life is not just a walk through a field of peach blossoms. There are many hurdles and hazards in most lives. If we are going to overcome these hurdles and hazards, it is important to train ourselves to make friends with pain and to tolerate suffering.( http://www.thomassaboclub.com/)
