Galvanization is not something new to the iron or steel industry. It was discovered by a Italian man named Luigi Galvani in the year 1780.

Galvanizing is a technique in which a zinc coating is applied over iron or steel products to avoid rusting over the iron and steel products. Hot dipping is the most common method in which iron or steel products are submerged in molten zinc.

Galvanizing prevents rusting in iron and steel products in following ways mentioned below -

1- It acts like a protective layer for the iron or steel by avoiding corrosion from various substances.

2- Even if the zinc coating used in galvanizing is scratched the underlying steel or iron won't get corroded as the remaining zinc acts like preserving coating until and unless the zinc coating completely disappears from the iron or steel.

3- In atmosphere zinc surface reacts to form dense, adherent patina which is not soluble in rain or water.

4- Zinc protects iron by corroding itself first.
