Your household carpets goes through a lot. From last night’s wine spillage to lasagne’s stains – they take severe beating all day long. And, carpet water damage is perhaps the most occurrence that you would always come across. Now as the carpet fibres are extremely delicate and has a pad underneath – it can absorb water quickly along with mould spores, fungi and mildew as well. Restoring it back to its former glory isn’t easy either. So, you might need to get a hold of the professionals as the methods involved could feel like rocket-science to you!

Furthermore, the type and extent of the damage also determines whether it can be restored or have to replace it altogether. Moreover, if the flooding has been caused from any faulty sanitary source, then it is a different story altogether. However, if it is the case of a leaking pipeline or wash basin overflowing, then it probably can be restored. Whatever it might be the case, do not let it soak up. Not only will it spread the contamination but also, spread bacteria ...
... leading to health hazards.
So, here are the tricks to abide by –

Trick 1 – Dry the carpet instantly

To curb mould damage, it is extremely vital that quick dry it as soon as possible. Use a de-humidifier to suck up the excess moisture. Run it for a day if needed. Along with that, try to vacuum them or use high-velocity fan for 72 hours (or, more if the need arises). Make sure there is sufficient airflow inside the room so that the ‘prized object’ is dried completely – inside out! If you find these tasks too daunting, you can always go for professional carpet water damage control and if all else fails, then replace them!

Trick 2 – Employ a quality rug shampoo

Yes, you heard it right but commercial rug shampoos can be a perfect way to rinse off the stains from your carpet (and, extend its life expectancy). All you need is this cleaning agent, a sponge to suck up the fluid and patience – a lot of it.
With uniform circular motion, rub the stains off and the portion which is deeply soiled should be altered with stiff bristled brush. If the need arises, you will have to repeat the process inside out. Next comes the part, where you have to make sure there aren’t any “streaks” or “trails” behind. If so, take a dry sponge to repeat the process. Once you are done with carpet water damage for now, move on to the final step of this process – is this drying procedure caused your carpets to shrink? You can also use a blow dryer to suck up the last “molecule” of H2O before you can reuse the rugs all over again.

Trick 3 – Avoid any contact whatsoever

To prevent from intensifying the damage, avoid any sort of contact whatsoever. Whether it is your snow-white feat or your beloved pet paws – everything is a strict NO. This is because, water is capable of causing detamination. If you don’t know what that is, H20 can bind with the molecules of the floor surface (wood or tiles) to form “glue-like” stains. This is also the reason why you should also get rid of all the furniture from the room. It is because wooden furniture could react with the commercial dyes, causing more harm than good!

Wrapping up
That being said, you are now well aware of the hassles regarding carpet water damage at your household. So, you can either man yourself up to do the “burden” work or spend generously on professional cleaners right away!
