Happy holidays! No, the stockings have not been hung and a turkey is not being cooked. But summertime still has its share of fun and family-oriented holidays. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the warmer months offer plenty of time for relaxation, adventure, and celebration. What are we celebrating today? Father’s Day! When you think of fun and floral miniature gardens, you might imagine Easter, Mother’s Day, or other springtime holidays. However, there are myriad ways to celebrate Dad in the miniature garden this year, and every year.

A Fun Family Activity

Some of the best presents are not actually “things” at all. They are activities done with our loved ones. When I was young, my siblings and I often went kite-flying with Dad on Father’s Day. If you have young children or grandchildren at home, why not spend some time creating a Dad’s Day miniature garden? Whether Dad has a green thumb or not, he can help situate the miniature plants in a container, fill in with landscaping materials, add miniature accessories, and give the garden a sprinkle of water.

To make an extra-special miniature garden ...
... for the family to enjoy, consider creating a garden that looks like your “real-life” home and yard. Carefully-chosen garden fairies, fairy cottages, and pathways help set the scene. Then take a look at the trees and shrubs in your yard. Can you find miniature trees and shrubs that mimic their shape or leaves? There is a surprisingly large variety of miniature trees; you are sure to find some miniature plants that are similar to those you have at home.

Garden Gifts

If you would prefer to surprise Dad with a fun and functional gift, rather than an experience, there are numerous miniature garden-related options. You could prepare a container garden that celebrates his favorite sports team or alma mater. With a few DIY skills, you can make miniature bunting, signs, and even fairy dust in his team’s colors. Add a tiny soccer ball or football for added flair. Touchdown!

Think about Dad’s favorite places to visit. Does he love to travel out west? This year, instead of taking a family road trip, you can give him a desert garden of his own. Pick out a few cacti plants and other low-maintenance miniature desert plants. There is no need for ground cover or lawn when you are making a desert or rock garden. And Dad will not have to worry about watering. Just choose a slow-growing cactus and make sure he situates the container on a deck or near a window.

You might be nervous about gifting a garden to someone who does not have a history with plants, let alone delicate miniature plants. In that case, you could construct a simple Zen garden. With little more than a cement plate, soft sand, and a few miniature accessories, you can create a desk garden that will look sharp in any room of the house—no plants needed!

Finally, if you are creating Dad’s Day gifts with young children, you could help them decorate a plastic hanging terrarium with landscaping materials, paint pens, and other tools. Add an easy-to-care-for air plant, and Dad will have a handmade gift he can hang almost anywhere in the house. Every time he sees the miniature garden creation, it will remind him of a wonderful day, the beauty of nature—and the priceless gift that is his family.

Miniature Gardening offers a variety of accessories, fairies, miniature houses, garden tools and furniture to create enchanting miniature landscapes. Miniature trees from 'Miniature Gardening' are an exclusive collection of plants for mini gardens or fairy gardens. If you are looking for mini garden accessories visit www.miniature-gardening.com.
